Sarteneja commuters forced to tread through 3 feet of flood waters

While the west of the country floods from the heavy rains, there are reports that the far north is completely inundated. Reports from the village of Sarteneja tell us that the road into that community is completely covered by water, three feet deep and more in places. Commuters are forced to tread through the flood waters before catching transportation to work or school. The flood conditions are exacerbated by the conditions of the road, the subject of discontent for many months. Even before the heavy rains, residents say that it would take as long as three hours to travel the forty miles between Orange Walk Town and Sarteneja. And there are reports that buses would regularly get stuck on the badly deteriorated road, inconveniencing and frustrating those who are forced to travel on the road daily. It’s a situation that likely won’t be remedied anytime soon. The road was supposed to have been completely paved by early 2013, but as we near the end of the year, work is yet to start. And in related news, the community of Sarteneja is still without potable water. There has been none in the village for the past ten months because the water system broke down and the new one hasn’t reached yet.

There are…..so many pOtable clearwater rivers in the Mayan mountains that could be accessed at the Source but somehow the cost of your friendly neighborhood pvc pipe dealer appears to be over budget? I would laugh though that would be cruel. Give one, uh, someone a few thousand dole-ars to lay the pipe, preferably underground via backHoe and a simple city cistern/water tower and WahLah, AbraCadabra, you got water? Now isn’t that special. :*/

  2. David says:

It would even be gravity fed as the water would tend to run DOwnstream.
Again, no laughing please as this appears to be a serious matter as WATA is as a Spring to one’s Being.
    KnowadImean?
    Huh?

  3. Villager says:

It only takes a few minutes to google some information and find where Sarteneja is located. Especially the type of water systems. It sounds like there is a crazy monkey on the loose.

Where is UNICEF, health and other social organizations? Where are NGO’s? Political representatives? Local representatives and organizations? Yet all will go to Sarteneja when they need the help. They get thousands and millions of dollars and cannot assist. Is it so difficult to fix a total of 2 miles of road?

  5. another villager says:

its because the ministers n past minister don’t need to go to sarteneja at the moment to check on the high value seaside land that they have. They don’t care unless they are ready to sell it.

  6. A Sartenejeño says:

for the past 30 years or maybe more there has been one area representative, correction now its his son, and I cant even remeber when was the last time time that road was upgraded. Many people say that sarteneja is a Beautifull village but thing twice even three times to go there because of the road. Even before the rain started the Road was in deplorable conditions, now the problem is worst with it flooded. If you are RED u would be smiling thinking that Im blaming the Blue for the conditions of the road, BS!!! BS!!! 10 years this Red government has been in power and not a load of gravel or white mal has been thrown on our road to help….. And I agree with “anther Villager” your right, “don’t need to go to sarteneja at the moment to check on the high value seaside land that they have” Both RAUL ROSADO and FLORENCIO MARIN JR & SR.
