Chinese couple is fined $20,000 for undeclared cash

Chenbo Xu

The Chinese couple who failed to declare twenty thousand dollars in cash was back in court today, a day earlier than their scheduled hearing. The couple had on them the thousands of dollars in undeclared cash when they were searched at the Philip Goldson airport on arrival. Thirty-five year old Fenglan Wu and her husband Chenbo Xu were both charged for failure to declare the cash. Wu initially pleaded not guilty while Xu pleaded guilty.  This morning, the Financial Intelligence Unit suddenly withdrew the charge against Wu but not against Xu.  Xu maintained his guilty plea and the Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith fined him twenty thousand dollars, the same amount of cash found on the couple. Xu was then free to go. When they were arraigned on Tuesday, the couple resided at the home of Kim Chee, also known as Brads.
