BSCFA to meet with Deputy Prime Minister
Back to the sugar industry….With the opening of the new crop season in the sugar belt fast approaching and a threat of strike by cane farmers looming in the days ahead, a round of meetings is scheduled for Friday between the Belize Sugar Cane Farmers Association and the Deputy Prime, Gaspar Vega and the chairman of the Sugar Industry Control Board, Gabriel Martinez. That meeting will be held at the office of the SICB in Orange Walk Town. The BSFCA is asking for government’s intervention to avert strike action. The outcome of that meeting is critical and will be presented to the cane farmers on Sunday. The BSCFA is standing firm that farmers want to benefit from the proceeds of bagasse, but the Belize Sugar Industries and its parent company, American Sugar Refinery, have also said that it won’t happen because the farmers have not invested a penny. So with those two strong positions, the situation is wrought with uncertainty for the new season which is set to open on Monday. The BSCFA on Wednesday met with opposition leaders who reportedly expressed support for the farmers.

@Rod: On top of the 1.50 you pay for a bottle of cane juice, you need to give the Cane Farmers .50 because they somehow invested into it. From now on, the rum, beer, and juice, anything that has cane product, please, the cane farmers want 25% of the proceeds. They worked so hard refining the liquids, they worked so hard packing these beverages, it is unimaginable how much effort they put into marketing the juices, oh my. Yeah RIGHT!!!! Agreed, they work harder than Rod, and they get paid for the work they DID accordingly. All their effort now is going into getting something free, when they should be busy trying to grow cane that is 3-4″ in diameter as opposed to the 3/4″ grass they are growing there now!!!
Its not Vega U dondut. Its does people in office at the BSCFA. They want more money to thief. They have a fat salary and only they want to go on strike. Many cane farmers do not agree with it. They want the factoey to open so they could sell their cane and have money for Xmas. Those that want strike have a salary and dont give a f@#k.
