Minister of Education speaks on burning issues
Earlier today, we caught up with the Minister of Education at an award ceremony for top national students who bested the CESC and CAPE. We’ll have that story coming up. The Minister of Education used the occasion to address burning issues including the situation up north where there is a threat of strike by cane farmers. But Faber says that the sky is not falling, after all in respect of government performance.
Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“If you have been tuned in to the airwaves and the media over the last two weeks, maybe even a couple months now, you may be aware of an apparent insidious coordinated attempt—I would say politically—to discredit a lot of what this government has done. Even when we have done well, somehow if one little thing is going wrong, it is used to taint the entire effort of the government. There is an attempt to paint a picture that there is a general lack of accountability in this government and that we are somehow obstructionist in this regard. Yet it is this government that have passed laws for the recall of elected representatives that is now being used. Similarly if you listen to what is played out in the airwaves, you would think that this government is in favor of foreign investor over our local cane farmers, yet it was the government that a couple years was able to get this strategic investor to ensure that the industry would survive for the benefit of the cane farmers and for all Belizeans. And it is this government that is calling the parties to go back to the negotiating table to work out an agreement. If you live in Belize City and if you listen to certain airwaves, you would think that the City Council was not working.”
From someone who has been there I can say that when you are in a hole you simply do not know it and cannot for the life of you stop digging yourself deeper. Mr. Faber would do well to accept the inevitable: the U.D.P. is suffering from end-of-their-term blues.
Blaming the media, the foolish citizenry that cannot understand how sweet life is, lazy public officers, greedy cane farmers and teachers, the weather – where does it end?
The sorry thing is that Belizeans will have to endure another couple years of bad government and inane lectures from dense politicians.
Burning issues? I thought a minister selling our nationality and passports, making chinese, indian, lebanaese and guatemalans citizens of our country! was a big deal
wow! Mr barrow gone slice his back and everybody seem to forget what we discovered over a week ago. Where is eric chang? His house is still lit up, his dogs in his yard are still fat. So who is feeding them? Mrs penner refuse to resign?
if ur asked to resign, resign or be fired!
De not got shame!!!
He got the most votes in an election and was appointed by the PM this does not mean he is qualified for the post and here in lies the biggest problem! What is worst he do not aproach the problems in a learning posture he dictates.
Mr. Faber you are clearly somehow forgetting when you were in opposition the cries you were making. Yes your government have been more Vindictive, More Corrupt, More involved in scandals of corruption, more involved cronyism, more arrogant, and less understanding of the struggles faced by poor and economically marginalized Belizeans. You have gone from speaking about principles how important it was to 0 tolerance of corruption to an advocate for corruption it seems.
Your Government have seek to destroy persons who are activist in this country by victimizing them and framing simply because they seek to hold your government accountable. Poverty have increased from 33% to 44%, unemployment have sky rocked to 24% from 12, cost of living have gone up significantly, then how would you expect analytical and intelligent Belizean to Believe your Government is doing better, you guys need to step out the bubble you live in, all is not well, there are over 142, 000 Belizeans living in poverty, many single mothers cant afford to send there children to school with basic school supplies or lunch.
It is this government who refuse to implement the 13 senator which will being true democratic practice. The recall mechanism is simply a waste of time and we are no fools.
Your Government needs to come clean and work for the Belizean people not just for your friends and family members.
