Aggravated burglary of Canadian couple still very much alive

But as both a criminal and internal investigation continues, the case of the aggravated burglary that spawned the fatal incident is still very much alive. The Canadian couple, David and Susan Baier, is still traumatized from the aggravated assault by three assailants, who reportedly tried to drown David and before tying them up, viciously attacked Sonia. The men, believed to be Rodriguez and two others, stole an assortment of items from the home in the Plantation area and made off in the couple’s white GMC Envoy that was later recovered on the Chan Chen Road in Corozal District. While it is unfortunate that Rodriguez has died, Officer Commanding the Placencia Police Formation, Inspector Mark Flowers, says that they are awaiting results from fingerprints lifting from the scene to move forward with the criminal investigation.

Via Phone: Insp. Mark Flowers, O.C., Placencia Police Formation

“The unfortunate incident of Tyson Rodriguez has of course interrupted the speed o0f the investigation, but we continue to pursue this investigation; it is very active. We have gathered some finger prints and we are now awaiting the comparison from the AFIZ machine in Belmopan where we are hoping to compare the print. We’ve gathered prints from the crime scene and from at least one of the suspects. We were able to establish that the deceased person was in fact the main perpetrator on that assault on the couple and we have yet to pursue the third person. We have a second suspect whose name at this point we will not reveal. But as soon as we get the confirmation on the prints because we have adopted the scientific approach to this crime. There are no other witnesses except the two victims and to reinforce our position, we were forced to apply the scientific method with the fingerprint. “

“The loot that was taken from this family…electronics, etc. Now have any of those been recovered?”

Via Phone: Insp. Mark Flowers

“Unfortunately no Duane, they were not recovered. Again I’d be remiss if I did not mention that I think we lost that opportunity or at least we have minimized our chance of recovering those—it is very slim.”

One other person was detained, but due to the lack of substantive evidence to levy a charge against that individual, he was released.
