Three Police Officers Caught in Customs Contraband Bust!
News Five has confirmed reports that three Police officers stationed in the west were busted with contraband goods on Sunday on the Arenal Road. Acting on information received, at a little after four Sunday evening Customs personnel went to the Arenal road where they observed two vehicles and ordered them to stop. One vehicle did, but the other sped off and Customs set chase. When they did manage to stop it, they found two Police officers and a civilian inside. The vehicle was being driven by one of the officers, who appeared intoxicated. In that vehicle Customs allegedly found seven and a half cases of contraband beer, three cases of soft-drinks, fireworks and cigarettes. The vehicle which stopped when ordered to do so was searched, and customs personnel found eleven cases of beer. A third Police officer was in that vehicle. Today News Five asked Acting Commissioner of Police Miguel Segura about the incident.
Miguel Segura, Acting Commissioner of Police
“I was briefed about an incident over the weekend. Hopefully I need to confirm it with customs and the media needs to confirm it with customs I will advise. In this case the police will normally get a report from the agency itself and if there is a violation with the disciplinary code we will proceed also with that, there is no two ways about it. The zero tolerance that commissioner has in terms of the violation of the police act. But we are being guided and supported in this operation by the customs so we will also assist us in the proceedings if we will proceed disciplinary. I was briefed that in respect a customs operations, three officers were intercepted with a substantial amount of contraband, But I may suggest that the media gets the exact amount from customs who were on the operation themselves. It’s a prejudice to go undisciplined with is a violation under the Police Act.”
The goods were valued at three thousand dollars. Fortunately, for the officers concerned, the civilians claimed responsibility and the matter was settled out of court with the payment of a fine. News Five understands that one of the officers is attached to the Benque Viejo Police Station while the two others are stationed at the San Ignacio Police Station.
who doesnt know the corrupt customs officers?
a shame for police officers when theuir CO just accepts facts when customs do most of the contraband
not even police arrest them cause its one monopoly
all CO contraband along wit custom officers, thats why only low ranks get caught cause SENIOR OFFICERS (all) are the common criminals but they wash away their crimes
This goes to show you children, no corruption officer should even think about withholding Ali Baba’s tribute.

Am I missing something here?
If the police have the contraband as their personal tribute, what difference does it make what the civilians said or did? ALL of them should be in prison. What is the will of Ali Baba?
We all know this would be taken care of by those in charge.
Hand wash hand in Belize and only the poor get their stuff confiscated by customs or arrested by police.
Just look how big the customs offices live with their small wages.
Hope custom officers can read this comments. they know whom they are.
Customs shall investigate themselves. Customs does the most contraband for themselves. they bring all kinds of stuff from across the border. I bet if police search any customs house they will find contraband. liquor and their fridge full with mexican beer.
what a shame.
