P.U.P. Senator walks out of meeting of the Committee of the Whole

The hot topics were those discussed by Godwin Hulse, but this afternoon Opposition Senator Lisa Shoman got hot under the collar and walked out. She did so after the second reading and debate on the Immigration bills, when the Committee of the Whole met to minutely scrutinize the amendments before final reading and passage. Shoman says that is to be done clause by clause so there is no room for error, but President of the Senate Marco Pech is somehow on the wrong page. So she walked.

“This president has taken to a habit of trying to read all the clauses together which is in contravention of the law. The standing order—and I have it right here—standing order fifty-four subsection two says that as chairman of the Committee of the Whole, the president is supposed to put each bill, clause by clause, for consideration and if there is any amendment, it is done when the clause is called. In other words you’d say clause one, clause two, clause three and you wait to see if there is changes and/or amendments that are being suggested. This president has taken to the habit of saying clauses one to sixteen will be read together. When I have objected to that procedure being used, the chairman is now trying—who is the president—to have members say that they agree that this can be done. Members have absolutely no power to agree that all the clauses we read together. The standing order is very clear that the purpose of the Committee of the Whole is to consider clause by clause and to determine whether there are changes. We cannot run, we cannot run the National Assembly as if it is some friendly society in which we all agree…And so say all of us and everybody holler I. If there is to be no democracy on the floor of the senate, let us at least have democracy in the Committee of the Whole. And so I have objected to the procedure, I have placed it on the record and I have walked out of the Committee of the Whole in protest for the way it is being run by the Chairman of the Committee of the Whole, who is the president of the Senate.”
Shoman says that she will also write to the President of the Senate in formal protest.

She is a waste of time idiot who thinks she is so brilliant and she is so loved by the people. She couldn’t even win a convention when she was the overwhelming favorite in Belmopan.
