Recommendations by ministers not being investigated

Godwin Hulse

But what about all those Ministers who sent in lists of Chinese nationals to be processed each week…like Minister of State Edmond Castro who sent in forty in just over a month? And former Minister of State Elvin Penner who recommended forty eight in the same period? And Minister of Police John Saldivar who sent fifteen? Hulse isn’t fazed at all, and says they aren’t even investigating because they wouldn’t be able to prove anything anyway.

Godwin Hulse, Ministry of Immigration

“But why would it be? Yon oh know nobody weh di come. That would have come from over there to here. He is recommending on behalf of the person who is sponsoring. Please, on behalf of Jules Vasquez, who is sponsoring theses people to come, I recommend.”

Reporter

“But why do we need that system when someone can apply on their own..”

Godwin Hulse

“We don’t have a system; that is not a system.”

Reporter

“So then why don’t we say; no minister, no member of the House can recommend someone? As long as an applicant meets all the criteria as you said that person is gonna go through the procedure and get their visa—no other intervention necessary.”

Godwin Hulse

“You are going to tell them elected politicians out there: P.U.P., U.D.P., V.I.P. and everybody else—who is to come in the future—that some constituent for them want a favor and you are not going to do it? you are going to tell them that? Please.”

Reporter

“If it means cleaning up what’s happening here, yes.”

Godwin Hulse

“Cleaning up what?”

Reporter

“The corruption that you have said is rampant in the immigration department.”

Godwin Hulse

 “I said corruption is rampant?”

Reporter

“Yes.”

Godwin Hulse

“…Anyway.”

We stand corrected. Minister Hulse did not use the word rampant. On October eleventh, when he was asked about a parallel system possibly operating within the Immigration Department, he stated, quote – “What I will say is what the Prime Minister has also said. We know that there’s been utter corruption in the department which we’ve been trying to deal with,” unquote.
