Woman killed in fatal traffic accident on Hummingbird Highway

Another person was killed in the west, but it was as a result of a road traffic accident.  Just before one on Saturday morning, forty-two year old Victoria Bol lost her life when the black 2003 GMC Sierra pickup she was traveling in slammed into a police van on the Hummingbird Highway. The extensively damaged pickup was seen with three wheels up, as the left front wheel was broken off and Bol, a Belizean bartender of Independence Village, was trapped in the vehicle.  She was later removed from the vehicle and transported to the Western Regional Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries approximately an hour later. Bol was traveling south along with driver, thirty-five year old Dion Dawson and another passenger when the accident occurred. Approximately four hundred feet away, a white 1999 Toyota Sienna Van, belonging to the Police Department was seen on the right hand side of the highway. P.C. Richard Arnold was traveling along with four others: P.C. Delwin Casimiro, WPC Chrystal Castillo Sergeant Hermes Morales and Carol Morales when the pickup lost control and slammed into them. “Police responded to a fatal traffic accident on Saturday morning around twelve-forty-five where they saw two vehicles: one was a pickup GMC truck was extensively damaged and then a van. The van was traveling in the direction to Belize City while the other vehicle was traveling in the opposite direction when they collided and unfortunately we had a fatality.”

“What can you tell us about the individuals who were in the vehicle sir?”

“The van was occupied by four police officers. Thank god, luckily, no one was hurt in the van. Three persons were traveling in the GMC pickup truck and one person lost their life.”

“What can you tell us at this time police are seeing in terms of the accident…how it happened sir?”

ASP Sinquest Martinez

“We are still at an early stage pertaining to the investigation. We are continuing to interview our officers. Two persons are presently admitted to the Western Regional Hospital. We are working along with the fire department because they assisted us in taking out the person that was trapped in the vehicle.”

Both drivers, Dawson and Arnold have since been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
