Would be robbers hit Chinese store in San Pedro; 1 dead and 1 on the run
One man is dead and another remains on the lam, following a daring attempt at holding up a Chinese grocery store in San Pedro over the weekend. It is reported that the masked pair entered the shop and proceeded to rob the store attendant. Her husband was immediately alerted to the ruckus and when he responded a shootout ensued. When the hail of gunfire subsided a twenty-one year old from Cayo laid dead a few feet away, while his accomplice made off with an undisclosed sum of money. News Five’s Isani Cayetano has the story.

A bold robbery attempt by a pair of thieves on Saturday night has resulted in the shooting death of a San Ignacio resident. Shortly after eight o’clock, W&W Convenience Store, located in the DFC area of San Pedro Town, became the target of an armed assault. Both men reportedly entered the business brandishing a handgun. Their bid at relieving the cashier of the day’s proceeds and escaping into the night was futile.
Supt. Luis Castellanos, O.C. San Pedro Police Formation
“We visited the location whereby Mr. Wei Ran Chen, forty-four-years-old naturalized Belizean, reported that while at his establishment two male persons wearing masks entered his store, one armed with a firearm and the other unarmed and started to rob the establishment. He has a licensed firearm and as such he was alerted by his son Jon Jun Chen and as a result he opened fire at them and they also responded, shooting several shots at him and in the process one of them was shot and unfortunately he passed away.”
That individual has since been identified as twenty-one-year-old Ajlan Raheem Requeña. According to Superintendent Luis Castellanos, the young man arrived on the island a few days prior to the foiled robbery.
“That night in question when we searched the area we found this gentleman lying face down with an apparent gunshot wound to the middle part of his chest, in the chest region and was apparently dead. We transported the body to the polyclinic where Dr. Jerry Lanza pronounced him dead and thereafter he was transported to the Belize City morgue for a post mortem examination. It was the father who I believe when he got the information or somehow managed to get the information visited the Belize City morgue and identified the person, the deceased person to be that of his son. Ajlan Raheem Requena, twenty-one-years-old of a Santiago Juan Layout area in San Ignacio Town.”

“The other robber is still at large. What are the efforts being made in trying to locate this individual?”
“We are still, we have video footage of when the crime occurred so we’re, his face was covered but we are trying to see if we could establish where this gentleman was staying and from there on we’ll continue the investigation if we could identify who was his partner. And we believe that the person might be on the island and managed to escape.”
Requena’s lifeless body was discovered in an area several feet away from the store. He was blue, three-quarter Dickies pants, a dark color t-shirt and a brown shirt covering his face. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
that’s what you get for following BAD company….what a Xmas for his people who are grieving because of his stupidity…..them pickny only ears hard…..
San Pedro is sending a strong message to criminals and their relatives from the mainland. Do not come here thinking it is easy pickings, the citizens are armed and trained, there is a high probability that you will go back home in a body bag like this guy.
The THERE ARE NO JOBS, excuse cannot apply in san pedro as there is plenty to go around for everyone.
Its good that people who own business protect themselves. San Pedro is getting tired of being rob by outsiders. It was the other chiny lady last week, then marinas store, now w&w store. I hope the father who is a BDF soldier doesn’t come up and say his son was good or loving and bunch of nonsense. They deserve what they get. San Pedro is tired of outsider terrorizing our island. We need to do something about all these people selling drug, walking around scoping people live then attack them. The police know hem but they don’t do anything about it for they too are stealing from innocent people. They are the one who encourage drugs, they can be pointed out too. Our minister need to do something about this.
Absolutely we need to send a message to the mainland.. san pedro is tired and will not permit it, we work hard too preserve what we have and to be destroyed by criminals.. If we depend on the pólice nothing happens.. you come to our island, WELCOME but find a job and be productive if not get out…We as belizeans should stop making them feel victims both leadrers and media and accept the fact taht they are plain lazy. come on minister make a firm stand to the government.. we are not in existence ONLY as their Banks where they take all the tax dollars THAT WE WORK SO HARD TO GET FOR THEM and nothing comes back to the island..
All you senseless island people have no heart whatsoever……………. if it was only your family I bet your Christmas would have been splendid & merry huh! Well good for you if all your family does not care about each other and don’t have pity! But that’s the way it goes, I guess island people have a cold heart. No matter what a close one does, family means love and care but I guess you all know nothing about that! And for all your FYI having a licensed gun for protection means you are allowed to shoot someone below the waist line and not above! SO get your facts right before you come judging! That is why your beloved chiney will go to court and pay for what he did!!!!! NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT!!!!!!!
