Health investigation into Kimora Leslie death completed
Late this evening the team of investigators charged with determining “if any breaches of contract, code of ethics, politics and protocols or negligence were contributory factors” in the death of two year old Kimora Leslie, presented their findings to Minister of Health Jose Coye. For the past week, Director of Health Services Dr. Jorge Palanco, deputy of Health Services Marjorie Parks, Chief Planner Dr. Peter Allen, Dr. Martha Habet of the Medical Association and an unnamed crown counsel of the Solicitor General’s office have retraced the steps taken by medical authorities in the Leslie case. We understand that comments on the report will be made tomorrow. The death of the little girl in late April prompted significant public outcry and highlighted weakness in public health care system. Last week Prime Minister Said Musa speaking at the opening of a new wing at the La Loma Luz hospital in Santa Elena challenged the Belizean medical community to stay true to their Hippocratic oath.
Said Musa, Prime Minister of Belize
?Today we are living in a world in which money drives everything, and it is so good to come to a place where a service is being provided that is not being driven by money, its is not being driven by how much they can charge the people. Rather it is being driven by how best we can do a lot as Mr. August said with so little. How best we can utilize the services, to provide and put service to the people at very little cost, at affordable, quality healthcare.?
