1 year later, second man charged for attempted murder of Ellis Meighan Jr and Malik Dixon
It took police over a year to make a second arrest in a shooting that occurred in Belize City back in October tenth, 2012 when two men attempted to kill a Belize City duo. Six days after the shooting, police charged one suspect but the second gunman remained on the run. That second suspect has been identified as twenty-one year old Akeem Smith, of Holy Emmanuel Street in the Port Loyola Area of Belize City. This morning, Smith was escorted to the courtroom of Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer where he was arraigned for the Attempted Murder of Ellis Meighan Junior and seventeen year-old Malik Dixon. Smith was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January thirtieth, 2014 where he joins Jeon Pebbles who was first charged for the shooting back in October 2012. Peebles was charged with two counts of Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm as well as Dangerous Harm and Grievous Harm upon Dixon. Now if the name Akeem Smith rings a bell, it is because he has been named in a list of violent incidents including one when he was sixteen years of age. At the time Smith and his brother Kareem were charged with Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder and Attempted Murder in connection with a grenade attack on Mayflower and Vernon Streets in Belize City.
