Rape victim identifies two of three men, but no charges brought against them

In the early hours of the morning of Boxing Day, a teenager was raped in San Ignacio minutes after she exited the Princess Casino in that western town. The young girl was allegedly pulled into a car by three men; she was held down by two while the third raped her. Details were sketchy and the most information Police would release is that they were checking casino surveillance tapes in an attempt to identify the assailants. But tonight there is much more information, and none of it was released at an official level. In fact, the rape never appeared on any police sitrep. News Five has confirmed that the girl was able to positively identify two of the men who allegedly held her down – Adrian Williams and Johann Smith. The victim told Police that she went to the club with both men, but it was another, known only by the nickname ‘doggy,’ who actually raped her. She told authorities that she was struggling and screaming, and that is when ‘doggy’ slapped her and she passed out. Police have so far detained, questioned and recorded statements from three persons, including Williams and Smith, but there have been no arrests in the matter. That has created consternation in some quarters, and allegations that the case is being handled with kid gloves. One of the men against whom allegations have been made is the son of a prominent U.D.P. politician from Cayo.  Police sources deny those allegations, telling us that any delay in the investigation or in the laying of charges is being caused by the victim giving somewhat conflicting statements to Police. Late reports reaching News Five are that there has also been a delay on the surveillance tapes from the Casino and those will now be handed over to Police on Thursday.
