Palacio says unions are still in negotiations with the P.M.
According to the B.N.T.U. president Luke Palacio, they, along with the Association Public Service Senior Officers and the Public Service Union, remain in negotiation with the Government of Belize and are prepared to lead the charge if industrial action is necessary.
Luke Palacio, National President, B.N.T.U.
“Our union like the other two unions continue to insist as it relates to the counterproposal that the government should grant us or guarantee us a floor as it relates to the salary adjustment, we know that the P.M. has opposed this time and time again but the B.N.T.U. and the other unions say that that is a proposal that we continue to negotiate; you cannot just come and tell us no. So that is as far as it relates to the salary adjustment issue because of the statement the PM made and again we clarify, B.N.T.U., A.P.S.S.M. and P.S.U. are still in negotiations. There is no splintering, there is no division, and however our union feels very strongly as to what is going on. Because of the you know the B.N.T.U. as the most organized union in Belize, we will take the lead to ensure that we will get those things done.”
We also note that the umbrella organization, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize is also beginning its media rounds on hot button issues.
