Michael Hutchinson says he is not stepping down from Rural Central

Even as Castillo is in court waging war for a piece of land, she is also in a battle for her political life in Belize Rural Central. Castillo wants to become the next U.D.P. Standard Bearer in that area, and while there are six in the race, it is common knowledge that she has the support and backing of the bigger players in the party. That’s a situation which aggrieves current U.D.P. caretaker Michael Hutchinson. He won one term, from 2008 to 2012, before being defeated at the polls by the P.U.P.’s Dolores Balderamos-Garcia. He’s lost once, but he’s not ready to give up, even as he admits that it is clear that where his party-s support is concerned, he is the underdog in the race. Today Hutchinson told News Five that he’s in the race to stay, so you can stop listening to all those rumors that he’s stepping down. Hutchinson says that regardless of whom his party backs, on convention day, March second, he will be the people’s choice.

“You know I received a call pertaining to that same question that you are asking me but that is far from the truth. I am still alive and kicking in Belize Rural Central and will be here until convention day.”

“The last time you were in the media it was to vent your aggravation of what you felt was probably unfair treatment wins terms of yourself versus other candidate one in particular, could you tell me if that is still the situation?”

“Well actually right now I am just getting on with my campaign, I see a lot of thing is getting done, or I should say I see some things getting done in Belize Rural Central, road works, digging of drains whether it’s by ministry of works or private entity. But Belize Rural Central welcome any upliftment by any of the candidate or government of the day. Surely I welcome it and I must say it is overdue. If any of the other candidates have anything that they would like to do in Belize Rural Central to uplift it and to make it a better place they are welcome. You know roads and drains; we have always been doing that. Personally in government we have always been doing that, these are things that we’ve got to keep doing, refurbishing of whatever, those thing is ongoing and so Belize Rural Central and myself accept the activity that is taking place right now.”

“It is well now that there is one candidate in particular who is favored by the government; how do you as the person who has been there for years campaign against something like that which turns out to big money and support?”

“Well I must say at the end of the day it is the people that decide for who they want to lead them in the Belize Rural Central. Personally after election for almost two years, I have been there as caretaker, working off my own substance and substance that people will due to me from time to time. So the people of Belize Rural Central know that I just won’t sit there and wait for a time like this. They know that I have been there, I have been working on their land issue, I have been working on education issue, I’ve been working on whatsoever thing that people will bring to me. A recommendation for a job, you know I have been there, so is not like I have gone dead after election, I have been alive, I have been moving around, like I said on my own substance. If the party decided to choose a candidate of choice, you know that’s a democracy, that’s their choice.”
Also running in Belize Rural Central is well known Belize City councilor Dean Samuels. The U.D.P. is holding conventions in the fourteen areas in which they don’t currently have Area representatives.
Mr. Hutchinson is telling lies. Roads and draining is a serious problem is Ladyville. For instance Manta Ray Boulevard has never been touched in 4 yrs. Driving along that boulevard, you either wreck your vehicle or hit your head because of the many potholes. The plastic culvert at one entrance has completely collapsed, and water runs all over the street. This street and many others in the vicinity has always been neglected by both parties UDP and PUP. And as for drainage, the same applies, the area is in need of serious drainage. In the Vista Del Mar area, near the same Manta Ray Boulevard, during the heavy rains last year, people had to walk through water to get to work. Ladyville is in urgent need of attention, Area Reps and village council members simply sit by, collect whatever money they receive and do absolutely squat!
I completely agree with what CONCERNED LADYVILLE RESIDENT is saying, i live on Manta Ray Blvd, and i go thru living hell everyday getting in and out of that road, it has gotten so bad. and nobody in office seems to care, the problem is that the Developers, Bella Vista group, nor the government feel that they are responsible to fix the streets, so we the people live in hell with the roads back there.
while most of the nation started having bad roads when all the rains started a few months ago, we have been having to live with bad roads for years. every morning after a hard rain the night, school kids and people going to work have to walk in water and mud on a major boulevard in Vista Del Mar, and it’s a fact since i see it as i live right in-front of one of the bad spots. some of us fortunate to have a vehicle, some don’t.
