Faber says industrial action by B.N.T.U. is the worst kind of tough love

Patrick Faber

Teachers will hold a protest march and rally in San Ignacio on Friday. As it has been since it started, the peaceful industrial action is a source of frustration for Minister of Education Patrick Faber. He spent the better part of an hour and a half on the topic at Wednesday’s House meeting. Faber claimed that he loves the teachers, but as far as teachers are concerned, it is the worst kind of tough love. And judging from the remarks by Faber, it’s going to get a lot tougher.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“On Friday, next week Friday it is payday and the teachers in the Stann Creek district is famous for breaching the policy. Many of them, breaching the policy of the ministry when they know they should not be taking that time off. So Friday for them is already holiday, even though the ministry says it shouldn’t happen, and we will be cracking down on that. But is because they done normally get that day off; yes because it is wrong the children deserve the best, the children deserve maximum powers in the classroom, especially in light of the fact that we are not doing well in these examinations. Well Mr. Speaker, they have decided, they will not have the rally on Friday then because they would have already have gotten that Friday off and that will create an inconvenience to them because it is payday, so they will do the rally on Thursday. Now Mr. Speaker I am telling you this Mr. Speaker, I love the teachers dearly. I want to see good teachers in the classroom; I want to see them do well in the classroom. I want to see them be the best teachers that they can be. That is why I bend backwards to try to find resources within the two hundred and seven million dollars and outside that amount Mr. Speaker in order to provide the best opportunities for our teachers to able them as comfortable as possible. The partial agreement signed Mr. Speaker gives them increase benefits, increase allowance, granted that it may not be where they want it to be. But increase Mr. Speaker, I love the teachers dearly and so we want to see this system develop. But we can’t run our shadow over the children Mr. Speaker we can’t do that. We must be there for the children every step of the way.”

Get a hold of yourself Patrick! It is called Karma. No need to be such a self righteous and pompious windbag. You were able to use us fellow teachers quite ably to propel yourself into office…at least we believed that coming from our ranks you would be more understanding of what the real problems are in theeducation system. You can’t afford to have us teachers as your enemies…. we see your frustration, we know what are your weakness…to much ambition… we will not back down and we are coming for you…just watch and wait.

why is Belize the worst education in the Caribbean?

    It starts in the cabinet.
And the lesson of corruption is that corruption is no leader, just parasites to the bone.

The Halifax Gibbet might fix this problem of bad thinking, as in merry olde England.
But instead of decapitating petty criminals, the corrupt government officials should get the first go.
Plus a drawn and quartering for more pomp, and a tourist attraction for cruise ships!!

FOR God’s and the TEACHERS’ sake STOP IT MAN! STOP IT!
