Show me the money; PM says salary adjustments for teachers uncertain
The Prime Minister wasn’t quite finished there. He then turned to the issue of the salary adjustment, because he maintains that for teachers, it’s really all about the money despite what they say. The quantum of that adjustment has remained somewhat vague, though according to the PM, it’s somewhere around three percent. Barrow claims that when the formula was discussed union negotiators were in complete agreement – but then they went back to their membership who want more since, as the PM stated repeatedly, it’s all about the money. In fact, the PM claims, B.N.T.U. President Luke Palacio is now a prisoner of the membership, nothing more than a wind-up doll.

Voice Of: Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“They can tell you that oh, it’s a whole panoply of issues, but it’s about the money. Their membership told them that because the formula, which is that they get fifty cents of every additional dollar that we collect…and I can tell you that projections are that they will end up with not less than three percent in addition to the annual two percent that they get, making for five percent but they want to separate the two. It is that they came back after the membership scolded them and said that we can’t agree to the formula – we want for you to say that no matter what…if there is even a falloff, you must commit to giving us a floor…a minimum…and at various times you hear various things. At one point it was ten percent. I believe ultimately they said five…I’m not even sure because they’ve been all over the place. That is what this is really all about. It is about Luke Palacio being as it were the prisoner of his membership and having to operate in this context like a wind-up doll, a wind-up toy, and everything else that they try to point to as being part and parcel of their demands in my view is secondary. It is that they are demanding that I give them a minimum, and I cannot and will not do that.”
So with no velvet gloves in sight and the battle of insults now fully engaged, what’s next? Today News Five spoke to B.N.T.U. President Luke Palacio, who told us that they have some concerns about the meeting on Thursday so have written back to the P.M. They are awaiting a response from him.
“but it’s about the money”
Yes, everyone knows the Ali BaBarrow drinking song.
Even those who cannot afford a Belikin.
Every one of the 40 must recite it by heart to join the band of thieves.
Some say the lyrics are branded on their toosh, but I would not know.
Tally HO! keep screwing the cuntry.
Teachers quit playing with this pm and gov. March to his house stay there for days weeks if you have to do not take this crap anymore we do not want any more thieves cashing in on our hard earned tax money we aire sick and tired of all the thieving from this pm and his corrupt gov.
Dis govt si good and wonderful. All the problems caused by luke and the teachers and everybody except the hovt itself which is so wonderful. I should stop being ungrateful and give thanks to this govt for being poor and struggling. I also thank them for the bad streets, crime, corruption and so much more. Yes what a wonderful state it is to be poor and watching all the ministas in them fancy cars etc. Praise the pm halleluia.
“It’s all about the money.” Well probably it is, because they deserve it, they are asking for an adjustment due to them for some time now. But what do you say about your Elvin Penner and your Edmund Castro…isn’t it all about the money too?? but in this case it is corruption the way they are getting the money. And just like them all other ministers are doing the same thing, only that they have experience so they know how to do it without being caught.
Teachers deserve their salary adjustment and their annual raise.
Enough with that Mr. PM!!!
Teachers need to rally and strike for weeks it they need to. Just like Mexico teachers, Belizean teachers need to learn from them if they really mean business!
As the UDP Criminal Planning Guide points out, one well paid criminal cabinet member is worth far more than 10,0000 honest school teachers.
Or as Marie Antionette put it, let them eat cake. But this is Belize not France, so let them eat sugar cane instead.
TEACHERS ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES GETTING UNDERPAY. MAJORITY OF BELIZEANS WORKING ON BOTH PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTOR ARE ON THE SAME SALARY SCALE. TEACHERS HAVE MANY OTHER BENEFITS THAT OTHER PUBLIC WORKERS DONT. FOR EXAMPLE THE LONG HOLIDAYS THEY GET FOR CHRISTMAS, SUMMER, EASTER. WHY THE COMPLAIN LIKE THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE SUFFERING…………………………………………………………..JUST SAYING
Show me the money!!!
Someone needs to show this dude the door to his prison cell.
Its all about the money, off course! How many teachers benefited from loans write off at DFC and Social Security? How many teachers benefit from the wasteful tax dollars from Ports Authority? Come on PM, the peoples money should go to the sector that brings out the talent out of our children! They deserve it! not the fancy ministerial rides and the fuel consumption used to ride around town, and the 2,300 monthly allowance for secretarial and rent your ministers gets! Its distasteful that you can backtrack now! Give the teachers what they deserve!
The PM is now and official fool. First he tries to change the definition of words to suit him, now he is outrightly lying and saying that there is no money. Yet, his minsters are spending public money like there is no end to it. As a teacher we will not back down from confronting him for his double speak and lies… the gift of gab does not help u one bit here…give us the raiise and stop being such a spoilt child.
Come next election, the Righteous and Honorable PM barrow will pay each Belizean $20 and you will vote for him. Stop di cry now, you got paid for allowing him and the UDP to the entire country. RAISE UP THIRD WORLD.
Dean Barrow and the rest of the ministry dept are crooks. Pm doesn’t care abt bze and its ppl.
