P.M. Barrow says millions to be invested for road works around the country
With the insults, condescending commentary and petty taunts out the way, the Prime Minister then disbursed some good news where infrastructure in concerned. The first bit of news is that work continues on sugar roads, to the tune of three million dollars, up from the two million first proposed. And right here in Belize City, residents will be happy to know that the Central American Boulevard will be paved from end to end. This makes only the fourth time in as many years that we’ve heard this particular promise, but Barrow says that work is scheduled to start as early as next week.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“Last week my friend from Orange Walk South talked about the sugar roads and that there was still a need for additional funding. I just checked, we’ve dispersed the first two million dollars. This week, another five hundred dollars going to pay for sugar roads; the deputy just said to me well but I think you had budgeted for all that to go to Corozal; I need some more for Orange Walk. He will get some more for Orange Walk. By the time we are done, three million dollars will have been spent on sugar roads. Creating employment, ensuring that the farmers can deliver their produce so that once again the north can be awash in money. Last week somebody from one of the other districts, you yourself, complained about Belize City and all we are doing…in other words, this government spending is so unprecedented and it is such a tremendous boon for the Belizean people that it hurt yo last week and yo said that yo di concentrate too much on Belize City; give mi some dah Orange Walk. And I promised you that you would get your fair share and yo hear, one week later two point five million has gone to three million for sugar roads in your district. And how soon yo want me to start on the Philip Goldson Highway and the three million dollars I will be spending in your town? This dah di same town weh yo man get pan Facebook and said ih noh got no faith ina yo mayor; that ih liad and so. And Mister Speaker and Mister Member for Orange Walk Central, you know that the OPEC people have now signed off on the award of the contract coming back to Belize City to concrete Central American Boulevard from end to end?”
Please make the roads WIDER.
driving at night is often difficult because people ride their bikes on the edge of the road, and to avoid hitting them, drivers must steer almost in the center of the road into on coming traffic. all that gravel area on the sides of the road could be paved, maybe 2 feet on each side. that would make a huge difference!!! thanks.
