Penner, the pariah, turns investment prospector

Disgraced former Minister of State Elvin Penner might be a political pariah in public, and indeed on camera he has been declared persona non grata by his boss Dean Barrow. But while there is every move to give the perception that Penner is down, he is most certainly not out. In fact, Penner is still wheeling and dealing, courting investment to the jewel. Last week he was caught coming out of the Prime Minister’s office on Coney drive in Belize City, and when asked his business, he said that he had been speaking to the PM about investment. Well apparently once the words Won Hong Kim aren’t mentioned it’s all good, and today Barrow confirmed that Penner the pariah has turned investment prospector.

“He came to see me with his father and a gentleman who is from South Africa but living in Canada who said that he was interested in doing business in Belize. In fact the gentleman claimed that he and his colleagues, he and his partners, already have invested in some hotel in Placencia. And that was what it was about.”

Today, Barrow wouldn’t offer any additional details on the investment in question, though we have been told by unofficial sources that it involves a windmill farm in Mountain Pine Ridge.
