Mexican National, Zurisday Villasenor Mendez, a no show in court today

Zurisaday Villasenor Mendez

There is an update to report tonight about Mexican national, Zurisaday Villasenor Mendez, who was granted a seventy-five thousand dollar bail by the Supreme Court less than two weeks ago. The Mexican national was to report to court today, but this may come as no surprise….Villasenor Mendez did not show up in Belize City Magistrate Court.  Since he didn’t turn up for the scheduled hearing, the court is forfeiting the cash bail.  Magistrate Nardia Morgan, the presiding magistrate for the trial for firearm, drugs and ammunition charges, has ordered a warrant for his arrest. Neither were his two attorneys present in court which the D.P.P., Cheryl-Lynn Vidal noted was a disrespect to the court. Vidal also said that she had been told by one of his attorneys Arthur Saldivar that Villasenor Mendez would have been present, but when he did not turn up, she called Saldivar again and was told that the accused was in Corozal. Magistrate Morgan also noted that since there was no indication from the attorneys that the Villasenor Mendez would not turn up, they must assume that he had breached bail conditions. He was granted bail on February seventh by Justice Troadio Gonzalez on the condition that he must report to court every Monday, but he failed to do so earlier this week. Villasenor Mendez still has a case pending before the Supreme Court for alleged constitutional abuse since he had been on remand for sixteen months. On October 2012, at the Las Vegas Hotel at the Corozal Free Zone, the Mexican national was arrested on charges of firearm, ammunitions and drugs. On the occasions that he was brought before the courts, the police would stage huge operations outside the court, but now the Mexican national has slipped through the net with relative ease.

Did the Judge who granted bail TRUELY believe this man was going to show up for trial? Man, with cases like this, I don’t know if I should laugh or if I should cry as our judiciary continues to fail us miserably.
As to Arthur Saldivar…..I’ll just shake my head and have nothing to say.

  13. CEO says:

Why on God’s green earth we would grant bail for a foreign national of a neighboring country?

Did anyone really believe he would return for trial? Sorry to say but if there is such a person they are either naïve, stupid or crooked.

And this was one of the K-9 Units first big busts! It is a disgusting shame that all that time and money spent on training the teams goes unrewarded because of corruption. The entire system is for sale.
