Repeat firearm offender sentenced to 20 years in prison

Thirty-two-year-old Jevon Levi Slusher, a repeat offender of firearm and ammunition violations, has been sentenced to twenty years after being found guilty of the offenses of kept firearm and ammunition.  Allegations are that on the night of February twenty-second, 2013, he was seen by police on Jane Usher Boulevard throwing an object into a nearby bushy area.  When they retrieved the object, it was a black, Astria brand nine millimeter glock pistol loaded with three live rounds of matching ammunitions.  His trial took place before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith late Wednesday evening.  In his defense, Slusher told the court that the police could not have seen him throw anything into the bushes because the area was dark.  In cross examination, however, Prosecutor Egbert Castillo asked him if Jane Usher Boulevard is not a crime-stricken area to which Slusher replied yes and that he has to always be strapped, or carry a gun, in that area.  With that, he was caught in a lie since he claimed that he never had any gun.  As a result, the Chief Magistrate told him that he was guilty and sentenced him to ten years on each count.  Slusher got the maximum jail term for the offenses since he has a previous conviction of the same offenses.  The sentences are to run concurrently, so he will only serve ten years.
