The daring escape of yet another prisoner

Sherman Rodney

In Thursday’s newscast, we reported that San Ignacio Police have launched a manhunt for accused murdered, twenty-five-year-old Jarod Arthurs Lamb. Lamb escaped from custody around eight-thirty on Thursday morning, while en route to a court hearing in the western town. He was along with six other prisoners when he broke free from a handcuff and jumped from the moving police van near his home village, Ontario. But there is now a third prisoner at large. Less than twelve hours after Lamb’s escape, twenty-three year old Sherman Rodney also slipped through the hands of the authorities when he was brought from behind the walls of the Central Prison to receive medical attention in Belize City. Police report that just before eight p.m. on Thursday, an officer escorted Rodney to the K.H.M.H., as he complained of severe pain to the left arm. He was taken inside a room by a nurse, but after she left, the police went to check on him and Rodney was nowhere to be found. How he escaped and whether there was collusion is what the police are currently investigating.  Police say that Rodney was on remand for a robbery and theft. Our archives, however, show that he was charged for the September twenty-third 2010 attempted murder of Rafael Usher. As we said, Rodney is the second prisoner to escape in less than twelve hours and the third to be on the lam since February fifth.

Edwin Paula

The first prisoner to have fled custody was twenty-nine year old Edwin Paula back on February fourth; he escaped while being transported to Belmopan for a court appearance. While Lamb was on remand for the January 2013 murder of Steven Valencia at his home on La Loma Luz Boulevard in Santa Elena Town, Paula is accused, along with three other persons, for murder, attempted murder and for the brazen University of Belize and La Choza Bar robberies in Belmopan. Police investigation continues and a manhunt is in effect for all three escapes.
