“The Government of Belize appreciates the opportunity to present its views on the issues that have been raised. The Government of Belize is the party that is foremost interested in ensuring that all the human rights for all Belizeans are protected. I will now proceed Mr. President to read a submission that came to us from the Solicitor General’s office, I apologize that I did not send it to you earlier as was requested, but we just received it as I was driving in this morning. I will make sure that you get a copy of it at the conclusion of the proceedings. Belize has a constitutional democracy in which the constitution is the supreme law and it is the sovereign and democratic state in the Central America and the Caribbean region. It is a state that respects the fundamental rights of all Belizean nationals. This general principle was stated by the Honorable Prime Minister of Belize when he delivered his 2013 Independence Day speech and declared I quote, “Recently however a most unsettling phenomena has arisen, a version of the culture wars has come to our country and it is souring the harmony and disrupting the rhythm of Belizean life. The golden knot that ties us altogether is in danger of coming loose. Now I do not wish to give offense to anyone on Independence Day, so what I may say next is spoken not in anger or even in sorrow but merely by way of exhortation. The diversity that we have hymned for so long must not now prove to be an empty trope so much P.R. fluff it must past this latest test, In particular we cannot afford for Government and the churches to be at odds, the filigreed chain that links the two is a proud part of national ornamentation and it cannot be allowed to break….”
The special hearing was held on March twenty-eight in Washington, D.C.

screw the fags!
Belize is a constitutional democracy in which the constitution is the supreme law, as decided by ALI!
fags beware, do not screw with Ali, or he will send the churches after you. He is the only reasonable legal mind in Belize. Don’t mess with the head thief. Know your pegging order.
ALI Akbar!!
Another embarrassing deadline narrowly averted by the tardy Belizeans.
i assume by your first and last name that you are not a belizean so we will forgive your ignorance not all belizeans on a whole are tardy.
Oh it is an embarrassing headline. And I’m BORN in Belize. And there are thousands of other Belizeans that think the same. This is foreign pressure on a sovereign country.
Indeed it is quite sad to see the tardiness of Belizeans. While not all Belizeans are tardy, they have sloppy people to represent them. On another note, most who have a closed and narrow minded way of thinking is changing slowly.
The topic is not about late or on time!
Belize needs to revise its antiquated laws that does not discriminate against any group of Belizean.
None of us ever fully agrees with another person but we forge ahead with life. Homosexuality even though not mu lifestyle has been around as far back as civilization and it will be around for the foreseeable future so lets find a way to live life in peace.
Will protestants start demonstrating against Catholics soon because their doctrines do not agree? Do not allow your church to pit you against things that are not really important and then you lose sight of the real issues: poverty, jobs, government fraud, crime rate…
I agree with you J
