P.U.P. mourns the passing of Max Samuels

The People’s United Party is tonight mourning the passing of one of its longstanding and loyal member.  Former People’s United Party Minister Maxwell Samuels passed away this afternoon while undergoing treatment at Belize Healthcare Partners. News Five has been able to confirm that last Thursday Samuels was hospitalized for a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated for that blood clot in his lung when he suffered a first heart attack on Sunday night and another this afternoon at around two. Doctors fought to save him, but Samuels passed away at around four p.m. Maxwell Samuels is best known for his career in politics, which started in 1989. He served as a PUP Minister from 1998-2003, with responsibility for Transport, Communications and Immigration. He was a member of the National Assembly until 2008, when he retired from active politics. Samuels was also a former Commissioner of Police from 1984-1986.
