Estrada/Jones family acquitted of firearm charges

In July last year, the Gang Suppression Unit arrested a family of six and linked them to the discovery of a firearm, ammunition and week found inside a church adjacent to their home on Victoria Street.   At the time, the GSU claimed that the Estrada/Jones family was using the church as a stash house.  That case concluded today and the police could not prove the allegation made against Frank Jones, his wife Lidia Estrada, and their children, Deon, Michael, Richard and Eric Jones. The charges of Kept Firearm and Ammunition without a Gun License and Drug Trafficking were dismissed and the six were acquitted by Magistrate Dale Cayetano.  Their attorney, Said Musa, did not even have to put up a defense because the case crumbled miserably.  The main witness for prosecutor, Noel Muschamp, was police constable Timothy Roches; he testified that the firearm found was a point thirty-eight, but the charge sheet detailed the firearm as a point three hundred and eight.  Roches also testified that the items were indeed found in the church and not in the Estrada/Jones house or yard. Having been unable to establish a nexus between the family and items found in the church, the family members were freed of the charges.
