Ministry holds training workshop on employers and workers rights

Godwin Hulse

Senator Hulse also spoke on the establishment of a Labor Advisory Commission which is chartered to look closely at issues pertaining to employment practices.

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Local Government

“Also worthy of mention is the appointment of the Labor Advisory Board. The main function of this body is to undertake a comprehensive review of all existing labor legislation with a view to recommend to cabinet comprehensive labor legislations that meet modern industrial relation standards and are harmonized with other countries of CARICOM. That is also your function today; to bring to the table not only the training—and the training in the sense of sensitizing you of what the law says—but also what you would require, what you would want and how you’d want to see it in your respective place to make this more harmonious etc. I see for example builder’s hardware here and every time I go to that store for purchases or other things, I am always thrilled with the counter staff. There is a young man there by Noel; I am sure he owns builder’s hardware. He is always aggressive and active and helpful; that is the kind of thing I like to see and you see it across the board in many, many places.”

The session culminated at the George Price Center this afternoon.
