Belmopan Comprehensive Teacher remanded for carnal knowledge

As we reported on Wednesday, thirty-three year old Michael Guzman, a secondary school teacher at Belmopan Comprehensive High School, has been arrested and charged for carnal knowledge, after carrying on a sexual relationship with a minor. A fourteen-year-old student, in the company of her mother, reported to police that she has had sexual intercourse with the teacher on at least one occasion. A medical examination conducted on the teenager would later confirm that she has indeed been sexually active. Following his arraignment in the magistrate’s court, Superintendent Howell Gillette, Officer Commanding Belmopan Police, told the media that Guzman was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court appearance.

“A fourteen-year-old minor from the same school reported that on February eleventh, she had sexual relations with one of her teachers. The teacher has been identified as Michael Guzman. He has been charged with one count of carnal knowledge and he has been remanded to prison.”

“Sir, are you able to give us any information as to how this student approached the police? We’re told that the mother initially found out about it and then she urged her daughter to come to the police.”

“That is correct, a doctor has certified that she is carnally known.”

The young lady is just as to blame as the teacher. She knew exactly what she was getting herself into. The only issue here is violation of trust that the parents placed in the teacher. Her age is not important, because this kind of thing is prevalent in Mayan communities in the south and no one ever does anything about it. SATIIM no seh anything bout it or maybe the young woman is communal property as well.
Too many times we blame the teachers, but the young girls are just as to blame because they have no discipline from home.
Teachers are in a position of authority and can use emotional and psychological power over a minor girl. Wise, mature, educated adults worldwide know that children cannot give true consent. As long as ignorant, foolish adults blame children, wicked men will continue to harm girls and girls will be too afraid to report the crimes. Shame on you who blame a child!
