Man freed of murder

Dion Brackett

A man was set free today in court after his case file was not available for trial. Twenty-one year old Dion Brackett has been on remand since last year for the January fifth, 2013 murder of Marvin Foreman. Brackett, a resident of Central American Boulevard, was escorted to court in handcuffs this morning at about nine o’clock, but one hour later he was a free man. When his case came up in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate, Anne Marie Smith, the prosecutor Sergeant Egbert Castillo told the court that he had no case file in the matter. With that the matter was struck out but Brackett can be brought back to court.  In January 2013, Foreman was gunned down at the corner of Freedom Street and Central American Boulevard, just a block away from where he lived at the time in the Port Loyola area.  He was shot as many as ten times from behind by a gunman while he was at the Bobo Shop. Brackett was charged, but released today.

It may cost you as little as a couple of hundred dollars to make “case files” disappear in Belize. Why are these files not made electronic….all documents can be scanned. Evidence photographed etc etc There is so much that can be done with the technology we have today. I love the education system in Belize as it has improved a lot. Teachers now need to have a certain level of education before they can be considered to practice teaching. That is good…it weeds out the teachers that are not educated and updated with today’s standard….SO WHY not apply the same to the Police Department. We have way too many UN-EDUCATED police men on the force. If were to look at the educational background of the ENTIRE police force, you would be surprised. Having an Educated Police Force should be a ten year project….set new standards for everyone…and if you are a police office who does not fit that criteria…then get out of the force or educate yourself to the new standard…that is what teachers did…so congrats to all our hard working teaches…and police men…stop di lamp up and lets raise the bar!!!

This is why have people so willing to kill others, there is no price to pay in most cases. Look at the smurk on the face of the young man, who shall be his next victim, unless they get him first.
