Two men, one believed to be the mastermind behind a home burglary in the West Landivar area of Belize City, were before the court today to answer to separate charges. They are Jamil Meighan, of Ivor Street in Belize City and Wilfred Javier Stanley. Meighan was the first to be arraigned for burglary in the courtroom of Magistrate Dale Cayetano. He is accused of stealing from Janelle Reyes more than eleven thousand dollars in jewelry, including a three thousand dollar diamond ring in April. Meighan pleaded not guilty to burglary was offered bail in the sum of six thousand dollars and is to return to court in July.
Stanley, meanwhile, was slapped with six counts of handling stolen goods, since police investigations located several pieces of Reyes’s stolen jewelry, including a bracelet, rings and earrings, pawned in his name at three different pawn shops. Stanley also pleaded not guilty to handling stolen goods and is to return to court in July. Meighan confessed to the crime and told the police that he had provided the items to Stanley.
