UNIBAM speaks on termination of Head of CHART

The University of the West Indies on Tuesday terminated Professor Brendan Bain as Director of Caribbean HIV/AIDS Regional Training Programme. Bain offered witness testimony in the case of Caleb Orozco and UNIBAM versus the Attorney of Belize and a group of churches on the constitutionality of section fifty-three of the criminal code. That case was argued in the Supreme Court before Shief Justice Kenneth Benjamin. Bain was terminated when thirty-five regional advocacy groups wrote to the UWI saying they had lost confidence in him. But the decision to cut ties with him has caused uproar in some quarters, while in others, it is well-received. This afternoon, Executive Director of UNIBAM, Caleb Orozco, told News Five that there was an obvious integrity problem with Doctor Bain.

“Free speech allows you to say form an opinion, to share an opinion. But free speech when extended into a court of law has a fine line when it comes to affecting the basic human rights of other groups of people. For those people who want to hold an opinion on section fifty-three, who want to hold an opinion on the humanity or immorality of the orientation of LGBT citizens, there is no issue. When those individuals take such a belief to try to undermine the rights of LGBT citizens specifically in this country—either through the court of law, through referendum, through threats—that’s where the lines are drawn. When you have an individual who holds a substantive regional leadership position in HIV saying or in this case in a program that is addressing HIV and is at the other end affecting marginalized groups like men who have sex with men, what you create is a problem when on one hand you say that you are building technical capacity within an institution and on the other hand what you are doing is undermining the basic international human rights principles by submitting in a court of law misused data, misplaced data to shape a preconceived bias. And that to us reeks of an integrity problem which had to be addressed. What this case shows is an opportunity for all these individuals who hold such strong beliefs that I may disagree with, to take heed; that it is time for us to hold a constructive dialogue, an engagement around issues that the LGBT citizens are concerned with and more precisely take heed that LGBT citizens ask for the same expected treatment that they them self would be expected at work, on the streets, with the expectation of personal security and with the expectation that their dignity will be upheld and upheld with some sense of collective responsibility.”

What a hope heap of nonsense. If the good Doctor had testified in support of UNIBAM Caleb would not have spoken this nonsense about freedom or speech etc. They speak about rights and respecting rights. What about the rights of the doctor not to be fired for testifying in a case?
These homosexuals just can’t handle the truth!
What about Mr. Bain’s human rights of freedom of speech and gainful employment?
If medical science proves and statistics are showing that when a man have sexual intercourse with another man he is more likely to be infected with HIV/AIDS virus,what part of that don’t these people understand and why hate the messenger?
It is obvious that homosexuals are insisting on imposing their depraved lifestyle on all humanity. Since we most certainly always reap what we sow, let’s sit back and see what will be the harvest from this unnatural and despicable behavior.

Professor Bain, as an experienced director in the HIV program, gave his expert opinion backed up by facts. Orozco you cannot deny the fact the HIV infections among men in the LGBT community has not decreased even though homosexuality has been legalized in some states.
Take ur head out of your @$*….and stop trying to force others to consent to your immoral behaviour….unu nuh satisfied doing unu nastiness behind closed doors; unu wah force people to accept unu nastiness in public too….shame, shame, shame
Good Job Caleb and the rest of Unibamers! I am sure that if any pastor or minister of a church gave an affidavit to any court saying that prayers are useless, his/her membership to that church would would be terminated just the same way. You cannot represent an institution or sector of an institution if you do not believe in what you are doing! I just wish people would understand the core principle at play here. Dr Bain, you have the churches by your side, God shall provide. jejejeje.
That only means that you are asking people not to be professionals in their work, what you are asking professor Bain is to continue to ill advise you, which he is not doing, his opinion is formed in researching and interpreting those data. You are asking him to uphold the guy way of living, even if he she that you are self destructing. His professional opinion counts because he was doing it without biase, but because he is not saying what you want to hear, then you want to intimidate him, what a bunch of crook UNIBAM has become, don’t do to others what you don’t want to do, cause this is the same thing u are supposedly fighting againts!

It’s very sad that Prof. Bain was removed from his post in CHART and UWI. Being part of the MWM faction in Belize I do have to support
the fight for equality. However I am
very much against victimization and bullying.
I am somewhat in the dark about what Prof Bian said on the stand; to my
best knowledge he simply stated statistical fact about HIV/AIDS.
There are two saying … Numbers don´t lie and the truth shall set you free. In Prof Bain case it the latter proved to be true ….. he was set free from his role in CHART and UWI. It is a sad day throughout the Caribbean that such key player in the research about HIV/AIDS was simply kick to the curb just because a few people got offended.
Where is his right to free speech? Was he attacking anybody? Did he insult anybody? I am quite sure the answer is no!
My fellow members of the LGBT community please I beg you, stop staking everything personally. Yes keep up the right for equally but do it
right in the courts no attacking someone personally. You are doing the same thing that you say you are trying to stop. Show them we are different.

The statistics speak for themselves. It’s unfortunate that Professor Bain was terminated from his position for stating the facts. Any article you read regarding HIV transmission points to the fact that the incidence of HIV is higher among men who have sex with men (MSM). As much as people try to manipulate the data, the outcome is still going to be the same. What the LGBT/UNIBAM community should do is to educate their folks on condom use and use of lubricants to minimize transmission as well as to encourage them to limit their sex partners. They should also be made aware that other STDs are still rampant out there such as syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia.

the sarcastic way you say “What a loving Christian message, Alberto.” doesn’t it bother you that a professional lost his job who’s post is so fundamental in the area of HIV/AIDS just because of talking statistics about the reality this group of people suffer as a consequence of their way of living? MEIN, really this issues is not about hurting other peoples feeling it’s about reality, just like if I would tell a guy drinking crude rum is bad for your health cause it has been proven scientifically and later that guy would make I lose my job, for trying to bring out the truth and trying to help him deter from it.
