Former Guatemalan President Alfonso Portillo guilty of money laundering conspiracy
Former Guatemalan President Alfonso Portillo has been sentenced to roughly six years in a United States prison after being convicted of conspiring with several others to launder millions of dollars through U.S. bank accounts. Portillo, who was extradited in May 2013, following a failed attempt to stave off being deported pleaded guilty in March in the courtroom of Judge Robert Patterson Jr. Speaking through an interpreter, Portillo, on Thursday, apologized and said that he felt, quote, profoundly remorseful and embarrassed, unquote. The sentence which is a total of five years, ten months is for accepting bribes from Taiwan. Portillo confessed to having taken money from the Taiwanese government so that Guatemala continues to recognize Taiwan diplomatically during his term in office, between 2000 and 2004.

I’m in a state of quandary trying to figure out what does the U.S Government have to do with this & why are they in it? The U.S need to mind their own affairs and let the Caribbean’s handle their issues!
Black American is ignorant! Guatemala, Belize and many other Caribbean countries have signed the extradition treaty! Belize signed this document in 2000. Learn before you speak.
oh…. and Guatemala is not the “Caribbean” but Central America. IDIOT!
