Carla Barnett resigns as Vice President of the Caribbean Development Bank
Doctor Carla Barnett is heading back home to chair the Belize Tourism Board. Back in April, the government announced that Barnett was taking over as Chairperson of the Belize Tourism Board. And, according to a release from the Caribbean Development Bank, Barnett stepped down as Vice President, Operations, effective May twenty-third, after joining the regional bank in March 2012. The release says, “The C.D.B. has had the benefit of Dr. Barnett’s experience at three different times; in the capacities of Economist, then Director of the Board for Belize and most recently, Vice President.” Before she left for Barbados, Barnett headed the Horizon 2030 development plan and also served as Financial Secretary, as well as C.E.O. at the Ministry of Economic Development.
I am being kind and not acerbic but analysis of Barnett’s jobs in Belize have been economically ineffective, inefficient for the country but very lucrative for her. With the impressive curriculum vitae expressed for Barnett, she was complicit in the slide of Belize economy into depression. Her publication of Horizon 2030 should embarrass her as it demonstrates her grasp of economic reality and leads one to muse what is being taught in the Caribbean and is being passed off as ” economics” discipline. With a Ph.D Barnett really knows how to pile the excrement high and deep. Also all the civil servants relevant to our economy are complicit in Barrow’s pillaging the Belize National Treasury and corruption in general. Would that these high ranking civil servants resign or retire; or are the pickings so lucrative that they are seduced to continue aid and abet crime at the highest level.
Perfectly Said “Ricky Malthus”………..these certified “doctors” who generate ineffective economic development but lots of personal benefits are the kinds of people Belizeans have been brainwashed to adore instead of hard work and real productivity that should push forward a developing economy.
I concur to all of the above.
I absolutely endorse what Ricky is saying. There is this misguided notion that there is necessarily a correlation between education and intelligence. Not necessarily! That is even less so of morality and an education. Some days you are better off with an uneducated, unsophisticated, crook than with a slick, educated insider that plays the system to his or her benefit. Our last two Prime Ministers are living testament to the potential perils of having educated people at the helm of a country. As for economics part voodoo, part science, part art, and God knows what else.
There is a basic rule of thumb that applies here. Believe no one else’s b.s. Go read it yourself!
