Christian Ebanks, wanted for murder in Ecuador, freed on bail

Christian Ebanks

Belizean Christian Ebanks, also known as Floyd Ebanks Jurado, was granted bail in the Supreme Court this morning before Justice Troadio Gonzalez. He had been remanded for keeping an unlicensed firearm. Ebanks was arrested on May fifteenth after GSU personnel searched a residence at one twenty-two Teacher’s Street in Belize City. Ebanks was at the home, and police found a nine millimeter pistol hidden in the bottom of a stove. At the hearing this morning Ebanks was represented by attorney Ellis Arnold. There was no objection to the application, and Justice Troadio Gonzalez granted him bail in the sum of eight thousand dollars, plus a surety in the same amount. Ebanks is to sign in at the Queen Street Police Station every Friday until the case is finished. He was also ordered to hand over all travel documents. If he is charged for any offense while out on bail, he will be taken back before the Supreme Court where his bail will be revoked.  Ebanks is allegedly wanted by Ecuadoran authorities for a murder in that country, but he is a Belizean and Belize does not share an extradition agreement with Ecuador.

Whose pockets did he line? The young men on the street caught with an unlicensed firearm are remanded in prison. Aren’t the laws clear on this? Then, he slipped into Belize illegally and somehow acquired a Belizean citizenship under an alias and this is not a crime? Wow!!!! Now I see why some of my former classmates who have educated themselves have emphatically stated that they’d never return to Belize. This whole country is a joke!

I hope that he was forced to hand over his passport BEFORE they let him out of jail!

It is sad when people like “Timber” are quick to judge an entire country because of what you see on the news cast. Yes there is crime in Belize like in any village, town city or country. I am happy you are living the “American” dream if that is where you are but you know what, Belize has so much good to offer..there is more good than bad…it is so sad that the news concentrates on the bad things that happen in Belize while the many good things that happen do not get the same type of coverage. With all of that said. Belize is the only country I care to call home and here I shall stay!!!
