Mayor Darrell Bradley still undecided on political future

Darrell Bradley

Will Mayor of Belize City Darrell Bradley run for a second term of municipal office? That’s the question that he’s been asked much more than a few times in recent months. We can report tonight that he is still not sure, and seems to be in no real hurry to decide. According to Bradley, he’d love a second term, but there are personal and professional considerations holding him back.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“I want to see the city progress; I want to be a part of the development of Belize City. I think we, as a city, have been doing a lot of work. The infrastructure is going quite well. We are seeing a lot of gains with B.T.L. Park and some of our other works. The management of the city has improved considerably; we are on accountability and governance. Even today, talking about CEMO to see how ready we are, how proactive we are; how the staff of the City Council is being effective. That’s something that I want to be a part of. It is a very difficult decision to say yes, you are going to go on; no you are not going to go on because it is not a black or white thing. I want to be a part of the transformation and the continued development and advancement of Belize City, but there are certain personal things that I have to deal with in terms of family commitments, certain professional obligations that I have as an attorney. So it is not like one just says no or one just says yes. I will have continued discussions with Councillor Leslie and Councillor B.Q. Pitts in terms of what is the best thing—not for Darrell Bradley, not for Dion Leslie, not for B.Q. Pitts, but what’s the best thing for Belize City. I have indicated that I want to see this country progress. If I see that there is a place for me in the continued leadership of Belize City and I can make a significant contribution, then that’s something that I had indicated that I would have been prepared to do. If it is, because I think that we have done well, if it is that the door is closed on that and there is not a possibility in relation to that, then I am content in knowing that when I leave this office, I did my best. And I could look every member of Belize City in their face and say I did right by you.”

According to Mayor Bradley, if he does decide to leave office, he will be heading straight to Caribbean Shores.
