2 men come under gunfire near a police station
The spate of shooting started on Saturday. Around nine-forty-five p.m., twenty-eight year old Sigmond Trapp and twenty-five year old Anthony Scott were injured at the corner of Amara and Kut Avenues as they headed towards Euphrates Avenue in south side Belize City. A black Ford Escort car drove up to Trapp and Scott a block away from Precinct One of the Police Department and one of the occupants brazenly pulled out a firearm and fired several shots at them from inside the vehicle. Both Scott and Trapp were rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. While Scott has been released from the hospital, Trapp remains hospitalized in a stable condition. Today, Officer Commanding Precinct one of the Belize City Police Department, Superintendent Alden Dawson told the media that a motive for the crime has still not been determined.
Supt. Alden Dawson, O.C., Precinct 1, Belize City Police
“Sigmond Trapp and Anthony Scott, both Belizeans, were walking on Kut Avenue heading towards Euphrates Avenue. And upon reaching the intersection with Amara and Kut Avenue, a black ford escort car drove up to where these young men were walking and some occupants from the car lowered one of the windows and fired several shots causing injury to both Scott and Trapp. Trapp has been shot in the right hand and the right leg and he remains in hospital in a stable condition, while Anthony Scott has been shot in the right hand and a graze to the upper back. He has so far been released from the hospital.”

“Investigation so far has shown what as the motive of this crime?”
Supt. Alden Dawson
“We are still investigating. We have not reached a conclusion where the motive is concerned. However, I believe that before the day is through, we will be able to say what is the motive because of the fact that we have witness giving statements at this time. I can’t really comment to say if they have become more brazen. I think it is the opportunity at the time. They were in a vehicle moving and they saw the people who they believe that were their intended targets and they fired shots at them.”

“Has anyone been detained?”
Supt. Alden Dawson
“Not at this point.”

“Are these two men known to the law?”
Supt. Alden Dawson
“We know them. We have dealt with them on different occasions so they are no stranger to police.”
What strikes me as very strange is that even though Belize City is so small and everybody knows everybody, how come these criminals continue to operate with impunity?
I am convinced that the Police are part and parcel of the criminal element.
I love the Jewel…. but that place is rotten to the core!
i strongly support you , louisville, ky………… the police are just sitting thier ass getting high paid. with every inch of allowances. .. and not patrolling…… yet they expect the military to support them. this is jus to show you how if the government dont care, the police dont care………… its such a pity.. .. Police are a criminal themselves……………….it is indeed rotten to the core………..
