The Americas: 2.5 Million New COVID-19 Cases & 40K Deaths in One Week!
Shifting to the regional perspective, the Pan American Health Organization held a public education virtual session this morning to speak about the COVID-19 situation in the Americas. The hour-long session discussed challenges the region is facing, including the increasing number of new cases and deaths, overwhelmed health systems, and access to vaccines. Director of PAHO, Doctor Carissa Etienne says that she is concerned that the region registered more than two million deaths last week. Doctor Etienne says the Americas is failing to control the virus and calls on countries to take serious action to curb the spread.
