Medical Staff a Border Stand Ready for Large Crowds
And, while there has not been a rush of Belizeans heading across the border yet, health and border officials do expect an influx of traveling Belizeans over the weekend. But, Dr. Gilharry says, they are prepared for the exodus.
Dr. Angela Gilharry, Medical Chief of Staff, Corozal Community Hospital
“Definitely at the beginning when we started talking about re-opening the borders, one of our main concerns were the human resources, because our health system is already strained as it is. But, thankfully, provisions were made by the Ministry and they did hire some extra hands. So, in terms of coverage I am not worried. We do have coverage for the border right through the weekend. And um, we were helped out a little in the sense that we are not opened twenty four hours yet. So, I think that the transition is good. We do this by phases. But, coverage we do have. We have a little bit of work to do when it comes to the infrastructure, but we will definitely be completed by weekend. As you say, we are expecting a high flow over the weekend. So, that is our main goal that by Thursday everything is completely set in place.”
