The story of a stillborn whose grandmother claims he didn’t die at birth
An investigation is now completed at the Western Regional Hospital where a young mother was told her baby was stillborn. Allisha Bell says that before she was wheeled into the delivery room; she felt her baby move, but soon after a c-section, she and the baby’s father, Marlon Reymundo, were told the baby had died. The couple briefly saw and held their new born son who was taken away to the morgue. And it is there that the grandmother made a yet unexplained discovery. We warn that the pictures are graphic but have to be shown for the context of the story which Duane Moody covers.

An investigation has been launched at the Western Regional Hospital following a complaint made by a Blackman Eddy family on the death of their newborn. Seventeen year old Allisha Bell and twenty-four year old Marlon Reymundo were expecting their first child, a baby boy. She was taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where she underwent a C-section. Moments later, the family got the bad news, baby Zayden was dead.
Yolanda Molina, Grandmother of Deceased
“My daughter say when dehn ker she fi go by the theatre, she deh by the door and she say this baby deh di kick up, kick up. So if dah mi something that di baby mi dead ina ahn already, she noh mi wah feel no movement. She say she feel that baby up to…ih hand to tell the man please go call the doctor fi mi because this baby di kick me up too much and ih di pain mi. So dah when dehn give ahn the injection fu do the surgery dah then ih stop feel. Ih supposed to get an emergency C-section. When dehn done the C-section, dehn tell me the baby neva make it. You know once the doctor pronounce somebody dead, you know. They call me ina di room and I gone see the baby. So I stand up, I watch the baby. I come out back and that was it. Then later on dehn bring ahn ina the room weh my daughter and bwai dehn and the bwai back ahn. Really we neva mi di look on anything…the baby when the bwai mi di back ahn, mi daughter say hmph, ih got long finger just like your own. The baby had ih hand close, so he do so and ih open the baby hand and the baby hand close right back. but yo know dehn young and dehn done tell yo that ih dead so yon oh wah di look out for nothing. From there, the nurse come in; ih say yo finish? We say yes. Just like how the baby mi di lay down with ih two hand on the side, dehn wrap up the baby ina di same blanket and dehn ker ahn.”
Three days later, on Tuesday, while preparing to bury baby Zayden, the family was shocked… when mysteriously they detected that the infant’s hand was over the eye and the left leg bent to the side. Grandmother, Yolanda Molina believes the baby fought for his life inside the morgue.
“I see ih hand actually deh over ih eye and I get frighten. I called the attendant and I tell ahn this baby neva come ina this morgue like that. And he said he noh know.”

Late today, we learnt that the investigation by the Ministry of Health concluded that due process was followed at the Western Regional Hospital and that they are now providing care to the seventeen year old mother from Blackman Eddy.
the grandmother is NOT a medical professional. there are genetic diseases that would cause a baby to die on exiting the womb but can grow to term in utero. these ppl are ignorant! two words: Rigor Mortis!
So sad to hear that family lost.Baby is an angel so we know he is in better place. Why this has to always happen on Goverment Hospital they always don`t give a damn about anything not even life.Last year in October lost my niece the same way hospital negligence i am not sure why people worked there if they do what they do …
DO an autopsy , if the baby was stillbirth no air on the lungs. if the baby was at any point alive air will be on the lungs.
Another perfect example of a health system & health workers that DO NOT CARE…..Its quite possible that the baby could have been saved….In the US premature badies, babies with health issues are saved to the best of that hospitals ability- even if they have to transport the baby 100 miles away, they will get the best care….. Stories like this only confirm my disbelief and distrust in our country’s health care system. Looks like if you dont pay top dollar you cant get cared for properly! Minister Marin should take shame!
Involuntary muscle movement is normal in the dead. Sometimes the mind plays tricks on you. The mother probably felt some movement, but death may occur after birth. Sorry for the loss, prayers out to the family. I hope they are getting grief counselling.
