Still no charges against Southern Regional’s Administrator Nasley Sommerville

As much as three hundred and seventy thousand dollars was siphoned off from the Southern Regional’s Maternal and Child Health account over two years. Administrator Nasley Sommerville has been fingered in the embezzlement of hospital funds in which a subsequent audit found that there was a clear lack of accountability on the part of the Ministry of Health. In fact the audit suggests that because of the lack of financial controls, Sommerville used the government account like her own piggy bank. Somerville was suspended but to date no criminal charges have been brought against her.  Ministry of Health C.E.O., Peter Allen, was quizzed about it today.

“I was actually trying to contact the Dangriga Police just yesterday, but we were unable to contact them. We’ll be trying again today and tomorrow and we’ll be happy to give you an update as soon as we know exactly what’s happening.”

“Anything in relation to the public services commission having arrived at a decision?”

Peter Allen

“As far as I am aware, the public service commission has not yet heard the case.”

“Sir have you any idea as to what’s taking so long for criminal charges to be brought against her because the Auditor General’s report seems to be implicating her in quite a few things?”

Peter Allen

“My understanding, but really it is just my understanding of the particular case, is that the concern of the Director of Public Prosecutions was to make sure that if anybody else was involved or may be responsible that that would be covered at the same time.”
