Where Does OAS Fit Into Chiquibul Encroachment Equation?
So where does the Organization of American States fit into the encroachment equation at the Chiquibul National Park? The answer is that it hasn’t, not in a meaningful way at least. The Guatemalan encroachers have never respected the so-called adjacency zone, and nobody in authority seems to care much. But with the new development at the OAS, there is hope for changing dynamics, much anticipated by the sentinels of the Chiquibul.
Rafael Manzanero, Executive Director, FCD
“The OAS has its own role that they play, nationally, regionally or internationally. But I think the O.A.S. is a key player when relating to incursions or encroachments. So I would expect that there might be more of a highlight of the issues that are taking place and hopefully also a new intervention in terms of how to address it because it really need the higher level in terms of bringing in new measure to see that we could be living in a more tranquil environment. It is very serious.”

No one else will start caring about Belize until our elected officials charged with that responsibility starts caring about Belize’s territorial integrity.
Why should anyone else fight for our interest while we stand aside and look? People in the foreign ministry does not seem to get that idea. It could be because he is from that era when every thing we consumed came to us from Great Britain and they use to be the ones who fought our battles. Belize have no real oil reserves and they already strip cut the forest and left. We need to grow up and start looking after our own interest now.
Instead of joining forces with those that have the balls to stand up for our rights Sedi is cowering down and is afraid to piss off Guatemala. Never heard of any such thing from a foreign minister!
Sad! Really sad!
