No Timeline Given for Return of Vendors
While there is no timeline for the re-positioning of the vendors, Doctor Allen told the media earlier today that while the Belmopan City Council empathizes with them, the mayor and his councilors also understand the gravity of the situation at Western Regional.
Dr. Peter Allen, CEO, Ministry of Health
“Certainly we sympathize with that situation, we can’t, of course, ask the management to control the situation and then immediately disallow a decision of the management. So we support the management in their decision. In terms of timeframe, I’d be loathe to give an exact figure but I would put the timeframe in terms of months rather than years. Of course, we certainly understand the plight of vendors who have families to support and we certainly hope that we can have that situation fixed quickly as possible. I’m sure outside of the compound, I know that the mayor and the councilors have a great deal of sympathy for this issue. Of course, they also have a great deal of sympathy for the correction of the challenges they face, the administration of the hospital. I’m not sure what actual actions they have taken but I know that they are informed and aware of the situation and that they are certainly of a mind to help.”
The vendors maintain that they were summarily removed from the compound with no prior notice.
The vendors simply moved 30 feet from their previous camp & are now outside the fence.
