Health CEO Speaks on Eviction of Food Vendors

The recent eviction of vendors from the Western Regional Hospital, as part of an effort to rid the facility of a grave rodent infestation, has raised the ire of sellers who earn their living by selling food at the hospital.  They contend that in all their years of doing business on the compound, their stalls have not attracted any rats.  Nonetheless, they have been removed from that location on the orders of the Ministry of Health.  According to C.E.O. Doctor Peter Allen, the objective is to eradicate the problem before addressing the issue of returning the vendors to the location.

Dr. Peter Allen, CEO, Ministry of Health

Dr. Peter Allen

“Essentially, what we asked was for our technical officers to go in with the management and staff of the Western Regional Hospital and to develop a plan for dealing with this really outrageous problem.  Now, part of that plan was clearing the yard, part of it was clearing holes and sealing holes, part of it is replacing screens and doors, part of it is rodenticiding and the use of chemicals and traps.  Part of it is going into the neighbors’ yards which have not been cleared and cleaning those and doing our best to make sure they stay clean and part of it was that the Public Health Inspectorate recommended that for right now the vendors where the structure is not considered appropriate should be moved with the understanding that once the problem is controlled that we should be able to create a better environment for the vendors to return to.”

the real rat is peter allen and he needs to go

  2. Prig Minister of Belize, Ali BaBarrow says:

    The hospital has no rats.
These are gibnuts we are preparing for hospital dinner.
    We grow them organically.

The vendors have many rats, and when they pay the fees they will become gibnuts.

  3. Prig Minister of Belize, Ali BaBarrow says:

This new rat tax will fix all problems.

When they become gibnuts we cook them for pibil tacos.

The CEO states that the stolen piece of equipment is valued at $22,000. The equipment is listed at $5, 824 without discount (http://www.medicaldevicedepot.com/Bovie-Aaron-2250-200watt-Electrosurgical-Generator-p/a2250.htm).
    That’s a heck of a markup!

Let’s assume that the rat infestation was caused by the vendors. The blame would still fall on the Health department because at the end of the day,it’s the Heath department’s responsibility to ensure that all the Medical facilities in the Jewel are exterminated of rats etc. These are basic protocols that should have been implemented by the head of the Health Department. Furthermore it’s absurd that Peter Allen would assume that the vendor’s contributed to this infestation in any way.Why not take responsibility for the gross negligence of the Health department.

The Queen sure enjoyed it. I think everyone reading this should send a mouse trap to the hospital, since no one wants to take responsibility. Then they could get their money back from who ever they paid the $3000.00 and buy another piece of equipment that was stolen.
