Guatemalan President Elect Says He Won’t Give Up an Inch of Belize
Carlos Morales, a comedian, won by a huge landslide in Sunday’s elections in Guatemala, beating Sandra Torres by a margin of two to one. He received sixty-seven point four percent of the votes, while Torres received thirty-two point six. Morales campaigned on a promise to fight corruption, which plagued President Otto Perez Molina last month. Soon after his election to the presidency which he assumed next January, Morales made a statement on the territorial dispute to Belize. According to Morales, Belize is entrenched as part of Guatemala in the constitution and so the country should not give up even a centimeter.
Carlos Morales, President-Elect, Guatemala
“And with pain in my heart, Belize. Belize. How can we forget Belize? Up until a few years ago, the constitution of Guatemala said that Belize is Guatemalan territory and still we have a differendum and without wanting to fight with our brothers and neighbors. But with satisfaction, I say that we should not give up even a centimeter of our territory, a centimeter of our sea, a centimeter of that that joins us by history….”
You guys can go ahead and vote for leaders who cannot fight for you heritage and watch your nationality change from Belizeans to Guatemalans.
This is exactly what all PM and ministers on international relations should have said and continue to stand by, no land giveaway to Guatemala. Morales does have Cajones!
He should be be headed! Off with his head.
Most of my Belizean people has being brainwashed by these politicians.
The Guatemalan’s President statement is contradictory. He stated that Belize is for Guatemala and yet he is refering to us as his brothers and Neighbors. So who are we Guatemalans or your brothers and neighbors Presidete? “get it right”
I second you on that Marie. The President of Guatemala says those words. What was so diplomatic in that statement? He clearly states where he stands. But our ballsless foreign minister has to stay “diplomatic” and say “diplomatic things because he does not want to show up big and bad guatemala. He needs to go and all the udp leaders that support him. PUP by the way, is just as ballsless.
Let’s think outside the box. If Guatemala was in charge, Belize southside would be crime free. If Guatemala was in charge, lazyman wan have to work which would lead to more productivity, better economy, higher level of living and eduction. Now, now I am just saying.
So what is it going to be? Five more years of UDP, five more years of fear and crime, poverty and lazy pipil, dirt and misery or Guatemala?
I am ready. Which bus do I catch to my freedom ride?
Things will get rough with Guatemala if we continue with a UDP government. They have made Guatemala’s president and also the new president to take this approach of being aggressive towards Belize. They have never been like this before until our government started to be too easy with them. We need to be more aggressive. Mr. Erlington and Mr Barrow you have failed us as Belizeans and including those that support you even thou your supporters don’t want to see it because they have a big red patch on their eyes.
i hope the Govt of Belize don’t take that #$%^&hole statement lightly, he has no political back ground so he would react first, but again who to blame but Belize for giving them too much rope.one advice start to learn uno spanish he who don’t know yet, cause that wah be uno first language. lol
To uncle benji. If you really want to think outside the box. If Guatemala was in charge, Belize southside would not be crime free. Do you really think there is no crime or gangs in Guatemala? Southside belize would be crime free by Belizeans. Why? Glad you asked. There would BE no Belizeans. I stated before, Guatemala want Belizean TERRITORY, not BELIZEANS. Within 5 years grass roots Belizeans will be a myth.
