The government announced today the appointment of Daniel Gutierrez of Belize Natural Energy as Ambassador to CARICOM. Gutierrez presented his letter of credence to Secretary General Irwin LaRocque in Georgetown, Guyana where a committee of CARICOM Ambassadors are discussing the Community’s Reform Process. The appointment coincides with the assumption of the six-month chairmanship of CARICOM by Belize. LaRocque noted that Gutierrez will have the opportunity to help shape the way forward for the integration movement by advancing the implementation of decisions at the national level. Gutierrez’s ambassadorial appointment is the first to be announced since the November fourth elections. Unofficially, other diplomatic appointments are being reported. Herman Longsworth, former Minister of State who did not seek re-election in the Albert Division will be deployed as Consul General in New York, while Philip Willoughby, who also backed out of the Albert race, will be heading to the Chicago Consulate.
I hope these appointed bureaucrats understand that the very rich European Economic Union is having great travails in its integrating processes and will end in disarray eventually. They must be mindful that the EEU was formed so that Germany, Britain, and France would share in hegemony of Europe rather than go to war and destruction. Caricom is an association of very poor countries with disparate national agendas and self interests. Although aping the EEU, Caricom doesn’t measure up nor can pass the muster for any kind of integration. It would be best if these poor nations seek their own economic integration with their former colonial masters rather than integrate and languish in poverty and delusion of grandeur. What do these Caricom countries have to trade amongst themselves except more poverty, more ignorance, more mis-education of the masses ? Caricom is a colossal mistake engineered by USA , Britain and Europe to continue their hegemony at least cost while the ex-slave states run around in self importance doing their masters bidding. What a hopeless region. Don’t you people have any sense to see what’s happening?
