4 Belizeans Convicted of Mail Fraud in Las Vegas
Belize has been in the news for all sorts of wrong reasons lately – from murder to fraud. The Las Vegas Review Journal is today reporting the conviction of four Belizeans in Las Vegas for their roles in stealing money from the US Government. According to the Journal, Frederick Vernon Williams and his sister Jacqueline Louisa Gentle were convicted on Friday for using false identities to steal almost three hundred thousand U.S. dollars in government benefits. Williams’ wife, Denise Allison Williams and another sister, Carolyn Willis-Casey, were also convicted for lesser roles in the scheme. Williams and Gentle were found guilty of Conspiracy to Commit Mail Fraud, Aggravated Identity Theft, Mail Fraud, Theft of Government Money, Making a False Statement in Application for a Passport and Making False Citizenship claims. Denise Williams and Willis-Casey were found guilty of Mail Fraud. The Journal quotes Nevada U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden who stated that the defendants used false identities and lied on passport applications to steal federal benefits from multiple agencies.
