And where the Opposition’s participation in the Belize/Guatemala talks is concerned, there is very significant news. Ambassador Assad Shoman is out, and Ambassador Eamon Courtenay is in. We could not confirm whether the very sudden removal of Shoman as P.U.P. Representative is based on the fact that last week he stated that he is not a member of the P.U.P., but from what we can say, Courtenay was the original lead on the P.U.P. team. This brings a whole new element to the dynamic on the high level team representing Belize. Today, Briceño made the announcement just after a meeting with O.A.S. Secretary-General Luis Almagro.

“I set up a team of former P.U.P. advisors and he was a former Foreign Minister under the P.U.P. government and that is why he was invited to be a part of the team. But now we have officially pointed out that Eamon Courtenay is our Party’s representative when it comes to Belize/Guatemala when we’re dealing with the government and Eamon is going to continue that work.”
