BERT Cedes Ambulance Services to Health Ministry in Money Dispute

Beginning Thursday morning at seven-thirty, the Ministry of Health will assume management of ambulance services after being unable to reach an agreement with Belize Emergency Response Team (BERT) for greater funding of their service. BERT’s Director Yvette Burks, when contacted by News Five this evening, explained that her emergency responders will be reporting to the Central Health Region after BERT was not able to convince the Ministry to raise the level of their funding from two hundred thousand dollars to five hundred thousand dollars. Her answer when we asked how emergency calls would be handled was a simple, “I don’t know.” the Ministry of Health has not issued any statement on this very serious matter.
