Jamaica’s Peter Morgan Wants Belize to Consider Dual Citizens in Parliament
Another matter that the movement hopes to see change is the matter of dual citizens in parliament. It is a controversial topic – but BUFERHD maintains that they will not rest until Diaspora Belizeans can offer themselves to represent in the democratic process and still maintain their dual status. Doctor Morgan spoke briefly on the matter – he says Jamaica is still struggling with it – and he will see if Belize will lead the change.
Bishop Dr. Peter Morgan, International Third World Leaders Association
“In Jamaica we are struggling with the same kinds of issues as well. I think that on Monday, I will take the opportunity to speak to the nation and define the nation in ways that will help us to see that when we say ‘nation’ it is not a simple construct; and we are talking about people, land, laws, governments, and there are ways in which the people from the Diaspora must relate to what is happening locally and we have to look at where their rights – give them the opportunity to responsibly make contributions to the country. So, that is a very interesting area of discourse and I am very much interested to see how Belize works it out so that I can go back to my own government and say, “see the Belizeans are doing it, we can do it too.”
Really constructed altruistic positive insight due real parliament discussion
