Mexico Donates COVID-19 Vaccines to Belize
The Government of Mexico has donated one hundred thousand doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to Belize. A small ceremony was held at the Phillip Goldson International Airport on Sunday where the Minister of Health and Wellness Michel Chebat expressed gratitude. Also present at the ceremony was H.E. Martha Zamarripa Rivas, Ambassador of Mexico to Belize.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness
“At the height of this pandemic, Belize turned to its immediate friend and neighbour Mexico for support to accessing the Covid-19 vaccines. We understand from the Mexican authorities that it was a long and complicated process in seeking the technical and legal authorization for the vaccine. The successful completion of this process could not have been better times, as this donation today will bolster our ongoing vaccination program. The immediacy with which our call for support has been responded by Mexico has not slipped us. And we are truly humble that we are indeed the first country to be benefiting by Mexico’s generosity.”
Martha Zamarripa Rivas, Mexican Ambassador to Belize
“Thanks to the Government of Belize. It is a pleasure to greet the people of Belize through this medium. As you all know, Mexico is celebrating forty years of diplomatic relations with Belize. This is very important for our country. Let’s recall that Belize became independent on September twenty-first, 1981 and Mexico was the first country to recognise Belize’s independence. And by September twenty-third, Mexico had already sent its first ambassador to this new independent nation.”
