PM to Musa: “Stubborn jackass and I will be your stubborn driver”

Said Musa

Said Musa

Earlier we reported on the budget for the new financial year and the additional taxes that will be imposed. But the House meeting would not be over without the usual dose of mudslinging. And as it has in the past, the arrows of Prime Minister Dean Barrow were slung again at his predecessor, Said Musa. By any measure, it was a new low in parliament. Here is how it went from nasty to plain vile.

John Briceño, Leader of Opposition

“So that the prime minister obviously is more concerned about looking after his deficits as opposed to plight and the need of productive sector. As usual, the prime minister is going to be attacking the messenger instead of the message. But he can attack the messenger as much as he wants, but this is not going to bring down the cost of living no matta wat. We need to vote against these amendments, Mr. Speaker.”

Said Musa

“Mr. Speaker, I will make a very brief intervention. No matter how it is said, the truth of the matter is that when you strip away all the technical jargon in these amendments—whether it be the Central Bank or the treasury bills or the international financial banks—strip it all away and look at what is happening, it is to afford this UDP government the ability to borrow more from commercial banks in Belize utilizing the Central Bank through the treasury notes. They can’t get away from that. That is a simple fact. Why are we increasing the treasury notes to ten year bond; the Barrow bond for ten years? It is to give him the ability to be able to use these monies and not required to pay back for it. This is the new Barrow bond and he can’t get away from that. Thank you.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“You know dealing with the member for Fort George first. Mr. Speaker, I say again that I continue to be shocked that he can continue to speak, that he suddenly regained his voice and he intervenes so blithely, not particularly effectively, but just as though he doesn’t have a care in the world vis a vi, the debt that he owes to the Belizean people, which could only be partially repaid if he kept his mouth shut as a form of apology for all he did. I just want to say this Mister Speaker. I was reading a book, an Afghan writer and there was a phrase in the book which I suppose must be Afghan. It is apparently a traditional saying. You know what it is? “A stubborn jackass needs a stubborn driver.” You are the stubborn jackass and I will be your stubborn driver every time; every time.”

John Briceño

“Language Mr. Speaker.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Every time you get up to persist in your outrage against the Belizean people, I will be here to flog you and to chastise you.” I won’t stop until I hang a bell around…”

Emil Arguelles, Speaker of the House

“Honorable prime minister, honorable prime minister.”

Said Musa

“You are a disgrace to this nation for a prime minister to be speaking like that; utter disgrace.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I won’t finish until I hang a bell around your neck as in the days of old what they do with lepers because that’s what you are, a moral leper in this country, and everybody should be alerted to when you are passing or when you are speaking to avert their nose. That’s what I think of you. Can I now deal with the leader of the opposition?”

Said Musa

“When Zenaida Moya had…”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“Am I allowed to speak mister speaker? I am allowed to continue?”

Emil Arguelles

“Do you have a point of order honorable member?”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I am speaking. I am speaking.

Said Musa

“What is the point of order?”

Emil Arguelles

“No honorable member, are you saying a point of order?”

Said Musa

“It’s the Leader of the Opposition’s point of order.”

Emil Arguelles

“Leader of the Opposition, your point of order.”

John Briceño

“The un-parliamentary language that the prime minister is using in this National Assembly.”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“A jackass is a donkey.”

John Briceño

“Fortunately we’ve had the students that have just left because it would have been a shame to hear the prime minister speaking in such manner in this honorable House Mister Speaker. Luckily these students have left.”

That exchange was almost as bad as when the then area rep Michael Finnegan used the “B” word to describe the former speaker of the House, for which he had the sense to later apologize.

  4. steve says:

I think musa should take what ever insults he recieves because he deserves it. I however do not encourage the PM’s use of language in the house like that. Now if it was a general public address he was doing in the open, he could have insulted that musa if he wanted, of course without the use of bad language

  5. CONCERNED says:

Hey, i dont know about you all but I could care less about what Dean told Musa…. It was a bit condescending but hey…. u call it what it is. There are too many issues affecting our country to be worried about such name Calling. C’mon ppl.

  6. Kristy says:

Mr.Barrow you gaan aff!!!! if you put yourself with him …… you’re an ass yourself!!!! you set no example for the country!!!!! you are a disgrace for belize!!!! shame on you!!

  7. Elgin says:

Barrow thinks he is above the law.He is suppose to say anything that comes to his mouth and everything is suppose to be curry. What a good example for Shyne to fallow.

  8. Elgin says:

Why should more people support the Prime Minister when he is the one acting like a Jackass by desrespecting the house?

  9. Elgin says:

I disagree with your statement student We don’t haveto do what everybody do.

  10. Lysa says:

Why are we all worrying about who call who a jack…………..s. after all is said and done. in the house they quarrel, call each other names and out of the house they are friends, buddies comrades, drinking buddies . etc or whatever you want to call it. only we the voters as usual are making issues about one word “jackass” in the dictionary which is termed as a male donkey or ass or a four legged animal so to speak. so what if Dean think Said is male donkey or ass or a four legged animal. that is his opinion which he is entitled to.

  11. nl says:

I am concerned of what example the PM is giving to the nation. It is disrespectful to use obscene language on the sitting of the house. I hope that no OBSCENE LANGUAGE is used for the DEBATE THIS THURSDAY. PM your are not an educated and professional person with the usage of that language. Even though that word is in the DICTIONARY it is not suppose to be used in the house. WHERE ARE WE GOING BY HAVING THIS KIND OF PRIME MINISTER???? This will encourage small kids to start use of obscene language. PM please do your WORK and stop TALK!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE want improvement in our STANDARD OF LIVING!

  12. DeeDee says:

Shame, Shame, Shame!!!!!!!! Belizeans demands an apology.

  13. methinks says:

Methinks, Said Musa should come back with a quote of his own from “With Malice Towards None”

  14. Bd McFadzean says:

Jackass is not an obscene word. That word is in the Bible.

  15. Jerome says:

I don’t see why Dean Barrow is allowed to play the role of village idiot. It is embarrassing to say this man is my Prime Minister. As for Musa, I agree he made grievous errors, but the UDP needs to drop its balls and quit blaming everything on Musa and the past PUP administration. His UDP government has made us look inept to the world market with his illegal takeover of BTL. And now he’s trying to change the house into his personal bar with his disregard for decorum .

  16. Elgin says:

Lysa:If they what to call each other names that’s their buisness, however don’t do it in our House.

  17. EarlGray says:

Does Dean Barrow know that the rider of the jackass is facing backwards???

  18. ceecee says:

I wish people would stop adding Shyne to everything Dean Barrow, because its obvious that his son have more class than he does, and to all who is defending the word jackass, yes its in the bible and in the dictionary but we sure as hell know that he does not mean it the way it is portrayed in the bible and the dictionary. As far as i’m concerned, its just the pot calling the kettle black .It takes one jackass to know the next.

  19. Cristobal Ramirez says:

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

When I use to go to school back in the 1960 My teacher Mrs.Flowers from Corozal Town was very instrumental
in teaching me discipline (using a sewing machine cord)and respect towards my peers and superiors using her bare knockles!Today as a successful general manager in a food service company I can attest first hand that blaming someone for past breach of contract or breach of fudichery duties does not in any way elevates your stutus or
make you a more respectable person. Therefore it is imperative that whoever is running the country be more diplomatic and focused in repairing the ills of past administrations, that’s the reason they were elected in the first place! This task sometimes does not or never gets the attention or recognitation adequate based on the damage caused by the previous administration however it is imperative that we focus on reparing the damage that has been done. I know Mr.Barrow and his administration somtimes gets frurstrated and anry by the tough dicisions they must make to cure the ills of the previous managers. But who woun’dt.Keep up the spirit Mr.Borrow.!

  20. Melvin Ivan says:

YEAP! Thatz a shame for Belize,it was heard on the net all around the world- I think the Prime Minister doesn’t know wath the word shame means,he as Prime Minister is giving the wrong example, and thatz all what the other ministers will do, just insult at each other. He is mad about the people demanding a better Belize that he promised with better posibilities, more jobs, reduce water\electricity bills, better health care for all Belizeans, no matter what ! its not time to say its the PUP doing mischief because its already nearly 3 years for his gov’t and has done NOTHING to show the people and raising TAXES WILL NOT DO BETTER FOR US, the people will suffer more .

  21. george usher says:

love all of belize belizean needs to be smart we need a third party george usher

  22. Norris Smith says:

This is in reply to nl, about kids and obscene language: If you don’t know kids are watching worst than what the PM said, on T.V. and committing awful crimes in Belize, the word jackass in a donkey.

This is for Jerome: Don’t you know the past affects the future? and as for blaming Musa he is the one that have the Belizean people in this big mess that we are in, today and it started in the past. So, get a history book and read all about the past.

  23. Elgin Martinez says:

Maybe We should take corporal punishment out of schools and impliment the use of Corporal punishment in the HOUSE to discepline the Prime Minister.

  24. Ingris says:

I don’t think that the prime minister is thinking about us the youth. He only think about himself. this expense he is trying to put on the poor people who voted him into office are really disappointed.I as a student don’t think he was ready to be a prime minister. He is not fit to be a P.M.Finally the language used in the house wasn’t good.We are not thinking about the past Mr. prime minister we are in the present stop sleeping wakeup.

  26. d. major says:

  28. Matrix Zes says:

This house of REPRESENT-a-THIEVES is a big joke. and i don’t know why they call the listening idiot mr. Speaker, if all he does is listen to all the stupidness that the empty barrels spew out. By their fruits, ye shall know them, and from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ‘ha, ha, imagine the possibilities you stubborn jackasses, vote me in and you will see and hear” MENTIROSOS los DOS, cuales dos?? los Dos BURROS: Said Barrow y Dean Musa…… ……… Respect to you The Right Honorable George C. Price.

  29. Elgin Martinez says:

What happens to the so call speaker of the House who is suppose to maintain order in the House. This idiot needs to resign.

  30. Melvin Ivan says:

The speaker is the same s… as Mr.Dean Barrow, remember when minister Finnegan said you’re a fired -sob to the speaker of the house Ms.Elizabeth Zabaneh, the last time and dean barrow was their and did not say anything. What can we expext from them they are ignorant, arrogants and after all they want to say they love our people, how hipocrites, they only love themselves.

  31. Eliu says:

I think after all PM does not know what shame is that’s all i think instead of him and his cabinet as every time they win blaming the pup because there is no money, Why Pm just dot go and say oK people are you with me or not lets repair our country so lets not do the mistake the other party did.But no instead he goes insulting and let me correct you all that jackass is in the bible yes its in the bible but has nothing to do with the pm to use it as an insult because that is what it is. and another thing yes the pup did wrong but still the money was flowing and let me tell everyone if the country was already paying the loan why is it that they want to raise the tax. has everyone noticed that the politicians are the most paid, so why pm does not say ok lets cut our salary but no instead of cutting their salary their one will get increase i bet you did not know that and that is exactly what will happen so i urge every one that the one who think that it was good that pm raised the tax you are wrong because that means you don’t care and they don’t care because they will not suffer its the poor people that will suffer so i think as a Belizean i do not support the raise in tax.I also would say that i knew this was going to happen because the udp does not know how to govern that’s final.

  33. melvin ivan says:

Jejejejej! what can we expect from the Prime Minister from his face we can see he is a jaskass {sorry for the word but he’s the example}pls mein stop blaming the PUP,THE PEOPLE elected you to lead our country to move forward but looks that with you we’re moving backwards {like a jackass},ur blaming the PUP for ur errors too ,why not accept tat its u that is wrong,at least under the PUP things were not as EXPENSIVE LIKE HELL AS NOW , there was more employment, there were oportunities, NOW ? all ur loans that your UDP gov’t did when u were in power the PUP HAD TO PAY THAT AND THEY NEVER BLAMED UR GOV’T,and after all we were ok.Looks like what the deputy prime minister said afew years ago is true “while the grass the grow the cow the dead”.-

  34. Sentimental says:

Instead of sitting around ridiculing and criticizing the Honorable Prime Minister, I would Suggest that we all take our time and invest it wisely trying to make our communities a better place. By just looking at the “so-called” indescent words that Mr. Barrow used, will surely not ammend all the other issues that are currently affecting our societies. We have greater issues affecting us that we could invest our time trying to tackle….Always remember, my Belizean ppl, “Charity Begins At Home!” So betterment in our little country begins with us… So let’s all overlook that, as there are other important issues affecting our Jewel, Belize…

Next, we need to stop blaming our Government, whichever,ie. for our increase in illiteracy rate, because at no juncture in time did any of our political leaders took these youngsters out school, that was optional! They’re termed as drop outs, because they chose that pathway in life, for the most. There are a few exceptions, however, and all respect goes out to them, the minority. Then

  36. robby says:

like father like son….our shameful national disgrace.

  37. BZNinCALI says:

Ok, so the old men are calling each other names, the children are killing each other with real bullets, the Policemen are shooting the civilians and now each other & we are focused on two wealthy men whom we voted into office who often seem out of touch with regular folks. Most of us don’t care what Dean & Said do after work, we want the violence stopped & all the profits from the oil used to clean up the country b4 any of the shareholders & politicians get their money. No one should get rich while poor people spend more than half their income on food & bleed to death in the streets. Our children are hearing words far worse than Jackass & our culture & life the way we knew it in Belize is gone or almost gone because everyone sells hope to the poor to get their vote & kick them in the rear when they are in office. The Jackass & his driver have been in office for more than 2 decades & we have only gotten worse. If BTL & every company sucking the blood out of us has to be nationalized to generate the income the country needs to heal itself, then so be it. Stop the name calling & the blood shed & get back tot business of runnig the country.

  38. Born Belizean says:

  40. Ras Indio says:

  41. real Belizean says:

i reallt believe that the Prime Minister of belize has absolutely no class. i agree that yes the word “jackass” is a word in the dictionar, but the mentality that he had and his intentions of using it was really bad. our Belizean people is the one that should stand up and take no more of these nonesence of this “so call” educated man. nowadays things are getting really ard and waht has the present government done??? NOTING!!!! times are just gonna get worse than it is now, and dean barrow is the same one that said cost of living would go down. 47. belizean girl says:

Born Belizean your right when you said macal is a UDP Fanatic but you sound like a PUP fantaic all the same. come on The past ten years havent been so good with the PUP admin and these two are any better. They all are corrupted and theives, but we quarrel over them and at the end of the day, they all pop open a bottle of blue label and drink together to coreograph these show we see in the house. We are being taken as fools….

  48. Charlotte Yearwood Martin says:

The energy and passion people invest in insulting each other on the website should be spent in other ways to help the less fortunate people in our beautiful country of Belize.

We have the potential to do and be much better than we’re doing right now.

It should starts with the leaders and elected representatives respecting each other regardless of their differences in opinions, and therefore leading by example. Prime Minister Barrow and Mr Musa are in the position of influencing young minds. These negative behaviors are unhelpful and will translate negatively into our society and on the streets of Belize.

If we feel that the people of Belize have been wronged in any way, then there are proper channels that we should start using to pursue these claims, and bring justice for the Belizean people.

In the meantime, conduct yourselves with dignity, and respect for the people you are representing in the House in Belmopan.

  49. Elgin Martinez says:

How can things be better in Belize when the Crime rate is so high come on my Belizean brothers and sister. You don’t need a degree to figure that out.

  50. Elgin Martinez says:

Sentimental:Sorry however i am going to keep burning fire on your incompitent Priminister. Why are you defending this idiot anyway. He is the reason why Belize is in the state it is presently.
